I am taking 40 mg of Paxil, up from 20. I have taken 40 for a couple of weeks. I can't tell whether or not it is doing anything.
I am also on Seroquel 400mg and Klonopin 1-2mg.

My PA (with whom I have treid up to 40mg Paxil) told me that in about 10% of those who use it it will cause increased anxiety, aggitation, etc. and for them it is not a good med. I was one of those 10% and have weaned off it.

Paxil is likely to cause anxiety for 2 to 6 weeks, and likely to prevent it after that.

Paxil gave me anxiety for as long as I took it. Strange, fear type of anxiety. Had to quit it.

While paxil may be effective for some, I don't think it should ever be a first line of treatment for anxiety. Too many people have told me horror stories about paxil. When I went of Paxil, because it was ineffective. i experienced immense anxiety for 3 months which then became less severe. The electric shock feeling that occurs from withdrawal lasted 4 months for me.

I would concur that more time needs to be given for an SSRI to work for anxiety; and it doesn't necessarily need to be at a high dose -- some people have reported success at very low doses, but that depends on the individual. Usually studies of all SSRIs are based on 12 week segments, although it can be argued that some relief can come in the first weeks. If it is truly giving you nothing but grief, which something like paxil or luvox, the most sedating, doesn't usually do, then you might try lexapro or another similar SSRI.
