Nemifitide

Posted by deniseuk on February 17, 2006, at 4:11:35

Hi,

If anyone is interested, I rang up Innapharma (Tetragenex) to ask them about Nemifitide and whether or not they intend continuing trials on humans.

The guy on the phone was a bit evasive and cagey, probably because he didn't know who the hell I was but he said they intend submitting another application to the FDA this week. Whether this is true or not I don't know but I thought I'd post this on the board. As it will be an entirely new treatment option for depression.

Kind Regards....Denise

Phillipa,

It's an antidepressant that Innapharma (Tetragenex) in the States were developing. It's also known as INN00835 and is a pentapetide (don't ask me what that is :-)).

Anyway, they found during initial trials that at the correct dose it acted faster than your usual antidepressants and they seemed to be quite excited about it. Then they found that it was toxic to beagles so they had to stop all human trials.

The time before last when I spoke to the company they told me that they found that the toxicity was species specific (so it only affected beagles) and they were planning to get approval again to continue with human trials.

The company is actually in America and if you look up innapharma you will see more info on it.

Kind Regards....Denise

Innapharma has had no updates to their website about Nemifitide to date. I tried to contact Dr. Feighner himself, the president of the company, no response. This does look like a breakthrough with all the claims made and if the side effects are species specific, beagles can try another drug in the arsenal. Neurotransmitter.net is a good site to check on drug trials in different phases.

so you think they are planing phase III trials ? that would be great because i think the drug has a big potential. it is something completely different than antidepressants today - a really new mechanism of action. please keep as informed.

many thanks and best regards

Well unfortunately I'm in the UK and am not working any more so can't use the phone to ring America :-)

So if any of you people in the States can ring a few of the numbers on the Companies site and try and get an update that would be good, while you're at it, can you ask them if they plan to do any trials in the UK?

I've tried writing to them but am not getting a response.

Denise
