Benadryl fatigue? for Lamictal insomnia

Posted by psychosage on June 6, 2006, at 20:21:27

Does Benadryl have the strength to cause fatigue or drowsiness the following day as it exits the system or fluctuates in blood levels if you take it daily as a sleep aid (for Lamictal insomnia in my case)?

Benadryl leaves me in a complete fog the next morning after I've taken it for sleep. Plus it dries out my mouth so it feels upholstered. I've split my Lamictal dose to 100mg evening and 100mg morning - that has helped somewhat.

I'm trying physical fatigue to help with the insomnia, but's hard for a lazy person like me! Poster child for Couch Potato.

Does Lamictal cause insomnia? I had no idea. I take 200mg at night.(along with Geodon and Resotril - so I sleep well, but wake really groggy)
About the Benadryl, I have heard that there is a natural sleep aid called "Sleep 'n' Restore" That promotes great sleep without morning grogginess. Sold at local health food stores. I'm going to try some today.

Lamictal also interferes with my sleep--at 25mg or even 12.5mg. It's really too bad, because otherwise it seems like a great antidepressant.

Also, I found that benadryl did not help Lamictal-induced sleep disturbance.

No, I don't split my Lamictal; the starter pack for non-valproate users peaks at 100mg, once a day.

So people do get headaches from Lamictal? I've been wondering because since I started the 50mg in the starter pack and am now into the 100mg, I've been getting a headache every afternoon that does not go away until morning. I take mine in the morning and noticed that I still have no ambition, but I don't feel the need for my afternoon nap unless the headaches are so bad that I take a Klonopin and try to sleep it off. I absolutely can not go to sleep without the help of a sleep aid.

...to tell you that I also CAN NOT sleep without the use of a sleep aid. I use Resotril right now but am looking into SLeep 'n' Restore sold at the health food stores. Also used Ambien for years.

Cek, that's why I'm splitting the dose hoping the headaces I won't notice while sleeping. I take valium at bedtime. Maybe I'm fooling myself but if it works why not? Today supposed to to 50mg and I cutting a bit off the pill to adjust. I guess tomorrow I will have to take the whole pill. But one more night of rest. Love Phillipa
