Strattera Input :-)

Posted by Daveuproar on June 5, 2006, at 16:40:34

Hi everyone,

I've been on Strattera (60 mg) for three days and today is the first day I've been able to tell a difference. (The first two days I was on steroids for an allergic reaction to tea).

Anyone have luck with it? What kind of side-effects should I expect? Any information is welcomed!

Dave

Here are two recent posts of mine about my experience with Strattera. Good luck.

Sheesh, that's not very comforting. Hopefully it will work well for me. The doctor wanted to try me on Adderall XR, but I was a bit afraid of the stuff being that it's methamphetamine.

So far it's been OK. My headaches from the Effexor withdrawal are subsided some, but they came creeping back around 8pm.

Keeping my fingers crossed!

sorry dave
i really had no luck with it. i was on it about 6 months (cuz my bad pdoc wouldn't listen to me) and it did nothing.
finally other pdoc switched me to ritalin. that helped.

the only side effects i noticed was extreme dry mouth and weight loss (great appetite suppressant). that was about the only great thing i got from it.

but i have heard several people on this board say it did work for them. so i guess it just varies.
good luck to you.

B2chica-- Thanks for the info, I appreciate it.

I had a bad night last night. I've been getting these awful headaches that kept me up until nearly 6 am. Luckily, I didn't have to work today and was able to get some sleep in before noon. I'm wondering if it's a side-effect of the Strattera? Effexor withdrawals? I'm wondering if I should start taking it at night and maybe that would alleviate the headaches.

I just want these headaches to go away. Other than that, I feel fine. I actually feel as if I'm able to concentrate better and focus more on important aspects of my life (rather than dwelling on the negative).

Still keeping fingers crossed..

Are there more than 10 people in the world that have had a good experience with Strattera? I have never seen anyone that it worked for. My pdoc will toss it out there if someone really wants to try it but he has never had a single patient that it worked for.

i would be more prone to believe that the headaches were from the effexor...you can try the withdrawal boards for that if you'd like.

if you feel chancey you can try taking strattera at night...i fought my pdoc on this for a while, he insisted that it would help me sleep (even though everything i've read is contrary). well, i finally caved and started taking it at night and my insomnia got HORRIBLE. this was Not the answer for me.

now, on the other hand, i have actually heard a few people here mention that strattera actually made them tired....so who knows. but i think overall, even though it's not portrayed as a 'stimulant' it still has some properties and i think overall it would make sleep much more difficult.

but i'm glad to hear you are having some positive effects from it.
good luck Dave.

I take Strattera, 60 mg for the last 3 months. I think that it does help with focus and motivation. There was a definite improvement within the first couple of weeks that I started. I don't notice that it's there anymore, I'm not sure if that means I just don't realize the difference between my medicated and nonmedicated self, or that it has decreased in effectiveness. I could try going up to 80 mg. Maybe I will if my doc asks about it.

I don't have many side effects, although it made me nauseous at first, and now just blunts my appetite. There was fatigue for 2 days each time I increased the dosage and insomnia the first 2 weeks of treatment, both of which have now subsided. I don't have major ADD, just moderate ploblems staying on task and listening in lecture. I do believe I'm better at both now, although it tough to distinguish between concentration problems due to ADD vs. anxiety and depression. I think it's an OK medication, not great, not bad.

I've been on it for 2.5 years (80 mg) for ADD and it's still working well. Noticed a quieting of the mind and general peacefulness and huge reduction in racing thoughts and disorganization within about 72 hours.

Guess I'm one of the 10. I know I feel extremely blessed Strattera works this well as I had some trouble with stims due to hypertension.

Jealibeanz,

You and I sound a lot alike. I too don't have ADD to severely, I just have problems concentrating, following concentration (lectures at college).

I already can tell a difference. For example, I drove about 50 miles from my father's to my apartment this evening. Usually, while driving my mind goes in 1,000 different directions. Tonight, I focused on one and finally came to an end point on a decision I'd been dwelling on for weeks. That NEVER happens!

The side-effects so far: Loss of appetite, some nausea and a tad of insomnia.

I'm glad to hear someone has had success with it. I've heard a lot of negatives online-- as I'm sure you will with any medication. It's different hearing it from someone first-hand. Thanks :-)

Awesome! Glad to hear more success on Strattera. Do you take yours in the morning, or at night before bed?

Morning, although I switched to bedtime once about a year ago, when I had a period of bad insomnia (not due to the Strat). But the problem was, then it really didn't last all throughout the next day, and so I could feel my symptoms coming back say maybe about 3-5 pm. I also tried taking 40 at night and 40 in the am, but I *really* need the whole 80 at one time to feel full effectiveness and control of symptoms.
