Yes, I am on amisulpride. It works very well for my conditions (anxiety, social phobia, depression and some personality disorders.) I take 100 mg. Only side effect is raised prolactin levels. I'd recommend taking medications to counteract this (Dostinex, for example). Some people have found 50 mgs to be the optimal dosage for them.

Cut and pasted from some website:

Women may experience amenorrhea or irregular menstrual cycles, anovulation, menorrhagia, infertility, galactorrhea, vaginal dryness, loss of libido, hirsutism, or obesity. In men, symptoms of hyperprolactinemia may include erectile impotence, hypospermategenesis, loss of libido, or, rarely, galactorrhea.

Doesn't sound too appetizing.

I used to take amisulpride 200mg, I found it to have no effects on me whatsoever. I had no side effects and I had a psychotic relapse after being on it for about 2 months. Bunny

Hi.

Have you ever tried sulpiride?

How would you compare sulpiride with amisulpride as antidepressants?

Sorry, haven't tried sulpiride. It's supposed to have quite similar effects.

Yes it was I forgot that! Sorry for the confusion. I think mostly I remember amisulpride for a hideous relapse. Buns

i am being prescribed 300 mg as a trial to replace lithium which was making me toxic. it clears my head in a good way but i am so scared of prolactin problems, which i had once with sulpiride (the less clean version) causing a score of like 2300 where normal is prolactin 200-600. they gave me an mri to make sure no pituitary tumor, fortunately didn't have. but with breast cancer worries, etc., one doesn't like the sound of so much imbalance.
anything to be done about it? and is it a big weight gainer?

You can take mediactions to normalize prolactin levels. The most effective, and with least side effects, is Dostinex (cabergoline). Dostinex is also marketed as a "sex drug" (buy-dostinex.com)... =)

I wouldn't take 300 mgs for anything else than schizophrenia. Or do you plan to split the tablets?

I will check Distinex. I am prescribed it for bipolar as a mood stabilizer. we are just trialling it now, and have only used it for a couple of weeks, first at 200 and now 300. The pdoc said it was very low dose--it often is thre times as high. Frankly I don't know yet. Lithium worked well as a MS but I became intolerant. Thanx for the info. ramsea

I'd recommend you go as low as 25-100 mgs. From what I have read, amisulpride enhances dopaminergic transmission to a higher degree at dosages below 100 mg. Side effects will also increase with dosage.

Hi Buns

Did you ever try more than 200mg amisulpride? 200mg is not considered to be enough to treat the positive symptoms of schizophrenia.

Regards

Ed

That probably explains it then or maybe I took 400mg I dont remember with any clarity. Its pretty weird when I think about it I cant really remember the details of that episode at all. I do remember beleiving I was being poisoned and stuff about aliens, suicide, thought insertion, paranoia, the next thing I remember with any clarity is being talked to by the ward manager of the psychiatric ward just having been taken off close obs, that would have been three or more months later. There are some memories in between but it doesnt even seem like me in them.

you know how sometimes a few coincidences can occur and you never can be sure what caused what,or was connected or not connected to what. for example, since starting amisulpride over a week ago at 200, (though for a couple days now only 100)I have after a week a really achey body, myalgia it's called. I have a runny nose, but not too must digestive stuff. I just feel like crap and ache. Coincidentally after over 6 years of taking Seroquel almost daily, usually for no more than 25 mgs.-50 mgs. I stopped taking it on Frida--so that's 5 days without. But the pdocs assured me that I took such a small amount of it I would have no withdrawal symptoms. That seemed unlikely--my body must be really used to it--but it is a small amount so maybe so.

Also, I could have picked up a bug--I feel like a flu is in this too. Anyone have any experience of this? Do you think I am struck by Seroquel stoppage, starting up amisulpride, or just a bug>??? Sih=gn me Misery.

Haven't experienced anything like this, so I would suppose it's just withdrawal symptoms.

My overall muscle/shin etc pain did remit after I decided to add back 12 mg. (half a 25mg tab) of Seroquel about once every 2 days, weaning off more slowly. So I think it was Seroquel stoppage causing the "musculoskeletal" effect.

The amisulpiride has been great for the past couple of months at usually just 100-150 mg. It helps clear depression, gets me going.

And while I can only get about 3-4 hrs sleep without the Seroquel, I am sleeping 5-6 hours when I take the 12 mg. But if I take the 25 mg., I think the effect is greater due to its absence the other days and I sleep a blissful 6-7 hrs, more or less unbroken (which has become my norm, <dramatic sigh>).

My libido is not low but I can't make anything of it <more sighing>. As for prolactin, I had a test a couple of weeks ago but haven't heard back from the pdoc yet--which could be a good sign or could mean he is not paying attention. He's pretty good (though fairly new to me) so I am betting it is a normal reading. Will get back to this thread when I find out.
But so far I think amisulpiride is very helpful for now in keeping me from my worst depressive symptoms. ///ramsea
