Is EMSAM stimulating?

Posted by nickguy on May 28, 2006, at 16:54:08

I have tried many medications, and I think EMSAM is next. My question is, does anybody find EMSAM stimulating? Adderall makes me feel good, but I've only taken it unprescribed. (which I don't plan on doing again) My depression involves a lot of fatigue and inhibtion. I also have some social anxiety, but CBT helps with that. I think a lot of my social anxiety comes from feeling depressed.

For most people, yes, it is stimulating.

Yes some. It's always been a balancing act for me, sometimes giving up some sleep for depression relief. I'm giving rozerem another try, in combination with other stuff.

warm regards, Jake

My illness also leaves me feeling fatigued, unmotivated and anhedonic. The sri's I have taken have aggrevated that aspect rather than helped. I am well into my 5th week on the patch and this is the main thing it is doing for me, relieving me of the just dragging myself around. It is mildy stimulating for me, or maybe that is how "normal" people feel who are not plagued with the depression and anxiety. Sure worth a shot.

i found Emsam WAY too stimulating re: mind and body side-effects, even when keeping it on for no more than 3 hrs. daily. did not abate, so had to discontinue.

the only ssri that was stimulating enough for me was prozac at 10 mg or less - low dose.

seems those liking Emsam dislike the ssris for the reasons mentioned, mainly apathy. prozac used alone - no klonopin!- was nicely stimulating for me for many years - while i could still tolerate prozac's (or Emsam's, for that matter ) GI side--effects.

now, i'm on klonopin only - (no anti-d)) (scared!), which does add to my depression somewhat. but i have exhausted ALL other options. am attempting to titrate slowly down on klonopin.

my therapist just said she'd purchase an rTMS machine when it becomes available, hopefully later this year. i respond very well to ECT, so rTMS would very likely put me in full MDD remisssion.

unlike some others, i believe i am seeing evidence that Emsam is helping more folks here with their social anxiety than with their depression. JMO.
