Normal or manic?

Posted by TrishP on May 30, 2006, at 7:17:04

I'm not sure if I am just feeling good or if I am actually manic. I am taking Synthroid for a slow thyroid. When my dose was recently upped, I began feeling much better. Some of the things I noticed were: having a sex drive (unusual), being more talkative (according to my husband), having more energy, being extrememly hungry all the time, more easily anxious.

If I need to take a mood stabilizer, is there a mood stabilizer that won't effect my sex drive or make me gain weight? Now that I actually have a sex drive, I really don't want to give it up.

Will Cymbalta help?

Hiya,
I'm bipolar so I'm familiar (groan) with mania-so......

1) Are you sleeping??? How many hours???
2) Are your thoughts racing???
3) Are you Angry? For no reason ?
4) Are you talking to your self? Are you answering back???
5) Do you hear voices?? Music?? radio's?? that may or may not be there????
6)Are you convinced you are talking directly to God?

Just some stuff to consider....

Well, I guess I can safely say no to all of your questions. I'm just not used to feeling "well" and I think the Synthroid has actaully made me feel well. Possibly, at most I am experiencing some anxiety, which leads to some OCD symptoms (counting). When my Synthriod level is correct, I do not get depressed.

In case you didn't see my reply to your other thread asking the same thing.

I wouldn't label it mania until after you got results from a new blood test.

Hi Philippa,
I think both psychotic depression ( which you can have at the same time as mania-its called a mixed state) and mania share stuff with schizophrenia. A bad case of bipolar and a mild case of schizo probably aren't that far apart. There is actually a disorder in between called schizoaffective disorder and I know the definition of it but can't think of it right now due to not having had the morning coffee yet... I noticed it sounded like that when I was writing it but didnt know if anybody else would notice...those are some of my symptoms and/or those I've observed others to have :-).

I messed with Synthroid and Cytomel back in October trying to spead up my sluggish thryroid. When you're getting to much and you start going into hyperthyroid you can start experiencing the things you are feeling. I did. I also got the shakes real bad and with that, anxiety and I got to where I was hungry all the time. I think my spead up metabolisim was using up what I ate faster than I was use to and I found myself getting hungry more. Other than that, I felt good, like you had mentioned. I would have my thyroid levels tested to make sure that you're not getting hyperthroid. I definitely would not look into trying Cymbalta to fix any of this. I was on Cymbalta for 4 months and it was horrible. I wouldn't want to make anything worse or add more problems to what you're having.

Tam you just explained it perfectly to my brain. I never could figure out with schizoaffective was. Thanks, Love Phillipa
