I've tried both and believe sonata is shorter acting, helps you fall asleep, but I believe ambien lasts through the night. I've found Lunesta to work best for me.

tried both, sonata worked for me for the first few weeks, after that nothing really. ambien at 20mg worked when it accompanied other drugs producing solmnolence. finally adding an AP helped. but i do think ambien helped me have solid sleep (non intermitttent.)

of the two i'd pick ambien.

wish you luck with it.

Thanks guys. Right now I just don't sleep much. I have been dealing with it for so long, that sometimes I think I should just continue to do so, but then I'll have a couple of really bad nights (ie 2 hours of sleep versus the usual 4-5) that I start to get VERY FRUSTRATED.

I'm concerned about ambien because according to a pdoc I had, it messes with your sleep architecture. She preferred benzos, but I can't take those due to either paradoxical reactions or getting way worse depression.

I thought maybe sonata would be better, but I don't know if that messes with your sleep architecture too.

Can any of these cause worsening depression? I can't afford to feel any worse right now either!

I found sonata to be very mild and short acting.
But then, I could stay awake for days on my crazy, dis-regulated brain power.

warm regards, Jake
