I am just curious about ECT. Have you done it. How many seesions before it starts working? Or does it work?

Many years ago, I had it unilaterally (on only one side of my head), which results in less memory loss but is supposedly less effective than sending the current straight through the middle of your head. I went 3 times a week for 6 weeks as an outpatient.

For some people, the improvement is immediate. For others it can take more than 12 zaps.

> Or does it work?

It did nothing for me. I can't link you to any stats tonight, but to me they are unimpressive. Patients generally continue taking their antidepressant meds after treatment, and many have to have ECT repeated 3 months to a year later, when it "wears off".

But your mileage may vary. Everything works for somebody.

Are you considering getting ECT, deuce?

I am just considering the possibility. I have been in a major depressive episode for so long and now a I am on the MAOI's. So if they don't work, well then.... who knows?

I'm thinking seriously about doing it as well. I was recently in the hospital and talked with someone there who had only had 4 sessions. She said she noticed a difference with the first session, and was feeling happy and motivated to do things. (she use to be afraid to leave the house.) But knowing my luck, I would be one that didn't respond to it.
