Horror stories about coming off PAXIL?

Someone said Paxil was one of the most difficult drugs to ween off? Is that true? Why is this?

YES! I'm sure that you'll find more on the w/drawal board. Paxil has a short half-life and so it leaves your system more rapidly than something like prozac. I had a really bad time coming off of it, but I tried to go too fast and I was on a high dose. It took quite a while and I had to take tiny, tiny pieces of a pill at the very end to go off slowly enough.

Are you on it now and planning to go off?

Best,
EE

I was on a small dose for two years l0mg and I did what EE did. That way no brain zaps which was the only side effects. Good luck. Love Phillipa

And I just stopped, cold turkey, after about two and a half years on it. I had never heard that there was a problem with stopping it that way, and wasn't very happy for a while, which I attributed to a combination of rebound depression and bad character... (OK, so I guess that says something about the psychological part of my depression -- I get that whole "if I am depressed, it must be because I *deserve* to be depressed" thing going on...)

So, I guess we're all individuals in our reactions. While the Paxil didn't cause any real problems, Effexor withdrawal was very uncomfortable for me.

Hope that helps.

I quit Paxil somewhat quickly... I was on 20 mg for a long time, and I cut my pills in half for awhile, then just quit, and I had body shakes and insomnia. That was the worst of it, I just hated having those weird shakes that came from inside. I had those weird zaps too. It wasn't anything that made me want to die, but it wasn't comfortable. I've never tried to quit anything else, so I don't know if Paxil is the worst. I'm sure there's going to be a redirect to the withdrawel board now LOL - Bonnie
