Do you feel like this too? (Anxiety)

Posted by UgottaHaveHope on May 11, 2006, at 0:03:03

The best way I can describe the anxiety is ... the feeling you get when walking through a haunted house, you dont know when you are going to get scared but you know that you will.

That's how I feel. I have an excessive rush (or rage) of energy all the time. I can't calm down or I don't know how to. Anyone with suggestions?

I was taking 25 of Seroquel + 1 mg Klonopin for the last seven months and it was the first med (actually the Seroquel, to be extact) that had a postive effect on me in 8 years.

However, due to some financial issues, I have gotten all jacked up again and 25mg or Seroquel nor 300 mg of it is NOT really helping. Will I eventually calm down? The pdoc has added 20mg of Paxil. I hate adding another med, but I don't know what to do.

I know no one is a medical expect, but I would appreciate any feedback or thoughts. Michael

Klonopin was the only thing I found after years of trying meds that tackled the anxiety you describe. The secret for me was finding the lowest dose that was effective. At first, when taking lower doses starting at .5 then 1mg, it didn't work, I thought about getting off of it. But my doctor encouraged me to stay with it and go up on the dose.

It wasn't until I got up to 2mgs that I got great anxiety relief. Over the last 12 years I've bounced between 2 and 3 mgs, but found 2mgs worked as good as 3, but 1mg was not effective.

I think benzo's like klonopin are one of the best choices for treating an anxiety disorters, but again, the right dose is key. Most people seem to land between 1 and 4mgs of klonopin for it to be effective for true anxiety disorters (though some do get away with less, some need more).

In my opinion I'd talk to your doctor about going up on the klonopin and seeing if you get the relief you deserve. I know it's hell to live with the anxiety you describe.

It's just one opinion of many on anxiety, but I know klonopin at higher doses worked majic of me and has for others as well. I think the biggest reason for failure rates or looking for other med combos to treat "anxiety" is just not taking a theraputic dose. That said, it's not helpful treating depression. Best of luck. Just an opinion, but I think for immediate relief to prevent this thing from getting out of control you might consider upping the dose of klono and possibly lowering the dose of seroquel down to 200mg (perhaps in 25mg increments over a couple weeks).

That is the same kind of anxiety I have, and it is worst when I wake in the morning.

If the pdoc has added 20mg of Paxil, does that mean that it will be even harder now for the Seroquel to block serotonin? In other words, will Paxil help or hurt the effect of the Seroquel?

I would think they would work together but I really don't know. Love Phillipa

Ever thought of adding a beta blocker such as propranolol? A small 10mg dose added to Klonopin really mellowed me out and reduced my startle reflex. I felt like I wasn't in fight or flight all the time.
