What makes you think that you offend people? Well, you don't have to say, but all of the posts that I read of yours are helpful and polite.

No way Phillipa! You're great to have around. One of the aspects that makes this forum so enjoyable (in addition to feedback, experiences, etc.) is the "cast" so to speak. There's so many different personalities that really make it diverse and a joy to be a part of. So to quote a cliche from high school year books: stay cool! :)

Not at all my dear. You are always very courteous and helpful. We all love you Phillipa! Truthfully, you would be greatly missed if you were to stop posting. So relax and be yourself, the person we are all very fond of. :)

It is good that you posted this question if you felt the need to perform a reality-check. I remember doing something similar when I first started posting here. I found the feedback to be helpful and reassuring.
I guess we can't all be liked by everyone, but you come pretty close. I am pretty sure I know what prompted your question. All I can say is that you handled yourself very well and remained civil. You certainly have the right to express your opinions as much as anyone else does.

Phillipa, if I'm correct that this has to do with my response on a thread above, that has nothing to do with you or with offense -- it has to do with my being very, very uncomfortable with both some of the advice being given and also with how strongly it was worded. (That applies to more than just you, by the way, in that thread.) You have told us that you are a nurse, and I think some people place more weight on what you have to say because of it. After all, you have a lot more training with a lot of these things than most of us have.
It's something that has worried me on more than one occasion, when someone posts something and gets a lot of advice to go against the doctor's orders. We don't always know that whole story when someone posts these things. I guess I get scared that there's something important that we don't know, and because of that the advice is going to do some real damage. Let's just use a hypothetical person, posting that he wants to stop taking Zyprexa because of weight gain, and he really doesn't have any anxiety... Sounds like a good reason to stop the drug -- unless he happens to be schizophrenic and just forgot to mention it, right? That's why I'm always in favor of suggesting that someone ask the doctor about things, rather than making changes without the doctor's input.
And, frankly, I also get nervous about legal liability. Obviously, that wouldn't really apply to you, but it might apply to Dr Bob, who runs this site. I don't know what the current position of the courts is on this sort of thing, but it still worries me. It also worries me that someone will take advice from people here rather than talking to his or her doctor, and will get hurt by doing it. Maybe this is just my own anxious personality, but I always worry when advice to do something gets more emphatic.
So, it wasn't that I was offended by you, Phillipa. It was just that I get very worried by certain types of advice, and you just happened to be the one giving that advice this time.
Also, Scott had some really good advice for you when he said this:

Well I did post a public apology to you on Social which you probably haven't even seen. But hummm . I really think you should read the thread again a very knowledgeable and trusted poster here has given more directions than I ever did on what to take and not take and I also told the person a bit more into the thread to call his doc that had precribed the combo that worked for him and even asked if it had really been prescribed by a doc. I have no problem with you and never have. I have Babblemailed you numerous times to kind of pat you on the back with something you told a poster. So I've never been in a conflict with anyone here. If I have please will that person step forward and let me know who they are.Love Phillipa

I see this issue really differently. I assume everyone has been to a doc and that they are doing a reality check-and you know, if we weren't talking about psychoactive meds, I'll bet they'd be a different feeling here. Example: I pinched a nerve in my back and asked around among friends as to what worked in terms of pain relief and then asked my docs to give me those meds (none of them worked except to make me very, very dull, but...) I think this forum is mainly an advice/support board; and if a person doesn't like the advice, they don't have to take it, just like advice from your friends at work or elsewhere. I don't think there is any legal liability, although I'm not a lawyer, because all that is offered is opinions. There are a lot of barely competent docs out there, and suggesting that people think about what those docs say when it doesn't make sense is a service, in my book.
Back to Phillipa's question, I sometimes wonder how I'm coming across and ask, too, and then I feel stupid because I feel like I'm being "too sensitive", like I've been told all my life. You always come across as caring, Phillipa, as a newby opinion. Oh, yes, as someone else did, "Valium", so we don't get tossed onto social.:>}

Phillipa, you sound just like me, every time i post, either here, or on ocdsupport, i worry if i have offended someone, or given not so great advice.
