It should certainly be possible to make dopaminergic antidepressants without the potential for abuse.

I currently take an antipsychotic called amisulpride, which enhances dopaminergic transmission at low doses. It works very well for my depression, without giving me any euphoria.

The few cases where people have abused Survector are blown out of proportion in my opinion. People abuse anything, be it antihistamines or heavy antipsychotics.

Amisulpride (in 50mg doses) is now marketed as a treatment for dysthymia in Italy (as Deniban), Portugal (as Socian) and some Latin American countries.

Hello psychopharmacon. Thanks to your posts now im taking amisulpiride. It definitely has helped a lot with my depression. I am taking 25 mgs because 50 seemed too much for me (headache). I have two questions for you: Since when are you taking it and do you know if tolerance is developed after time to this drug?? Thanks for your answer

Hi Christian,

I have taken amisulpride since June 2005, and as far as I know, there is no tolerance build-up with this drug. At least I haven't noticed any.

Merital was a great dopamine reuptake med back in the mid 1980's but the FDA pulled it off the shelves supposedly becuase a couple of people died of a rare blood disorder.

Go figure !
