Cymbalta question

Posted by antigua on February 28, 2006, at 9:19:36

My pdoc just upped my cymbalta from 60 mg to 80 mg/day. I had been doing fine with 60 plus .25 klonopin to fight the anxiety effects, but I was just wiped out in the afternoon. Super productive in the morning, but only sleep in the afternoon.

Anyone been on 80mg? Any advice?
thanks,
antigua

Hi! I can't really answer your question, as I have only been on 30 mg. for the past half-year. I would like to get all the info that I can, though. I'm beginning to think that I may need to increase my dose. Did you start out at 30 mg. and then have to go to 60 mg. for effectiveness? Do you know whether 30 mg. can be a therapeutic dose?

According to the Lilly info 20-60mg is theraputic anything above they discourage. My new pdoc wanted me to go to 120mg but I couldn't tolerate even the 30mg. Fondly, Phillipa

I started at 60 months ago and like I said feel pretty good in the morning. I don't want to give it up because I really like it so much better than Effexor, which made me feel like a zombie and so emotionless.

I guess I'll have to see how it goes.

Thanks, maybe that's why my doctor wasn't so keen on upping it. His suggestion was that I just try to keep myself "busier." Guess he thinks I'm the bon bon and pedicure type (no offense to anyone; I'd love to do that!!!) but it's a matter of energy and not willpower, which he seems to think it is. It's not. Maybe I need a new pdoc.

I'd say so. If your pdoc says that you just need to pull yourself up by your own bootstraps, well, that tells me it might be worth looking for a new one.

In my own, not so humble opinion, a pdoc who sees you maybe 1/2 an hour a month is in no position to know if you're busy enough or not. And it offends me to think that he's treating you with apparently so little respect. Think about it -- that is disrespectful. "You're not depressed -- you're just lazy." What a not-helpful thing to imply.

Good luck, whatever you do.

yeah..your pdcoc strikes me as presumptuous and un-helpful. I think your situation begs the question "If I'm not depressed--just lazy--why are you medicating me? And why are you taking my money every month if I don't really need you?"

Good luck!
