effexor and wellbutrin?

Posted by shadowboxer on February 15, 2006, at 14:55:08

Hi everyone.I will make this short and sweet because my last post I don't think made it! I am taking effexor xr 150 for about 5 mnths, and I am pleased with it, however I have gained a couple of pounds, eat more and crave more alcohol.I never gained weight before until effexor.I have tried wellbutrin xl 150 alone and it made me a raving lunetic but I loved the energy and it decreased my appetite and cravings for alcohol. So My question is would it be okay to take them together? and do you think it will help w/ my cravings again? ( I know everyone is different)and one more thing! I just moved and do not have insurance yet. My mother in law gave me some of her wellbutrin to try w/ my effexor. I want to try it but should I wait to see a doctor? Okay that was not short but it was sweet!! Any comments, advice would be so wonderful! Thank you, Stephany

Think you should wait to see a doctor, and if you can't, at least speak to a pharmacist to see if there are any dangerous medical interactions between the two drugs.

Thanks for responding! I have brought it up with my previous doctor about combining the two and he said that is one option but he first wanted to see how the effexor worked for me because he uped my dose from 75 to 150. But now it is too late to see him because I have no insurance. I called and spoke with his nurse and she treated me like an idiot. She told me I had to come in and see him even after I told her he and I already discussed it. She did not care that I did not have insurance. That is a good idea to maybe speak to a pharmacist. Thank you Stephany

To the name, Cerebus:
I could not see your reply. I clicked on it but it did not say anything. Try again if you want to. I would love to hear if you have a comment. Thanx, Stephany

Thanx Phillipa for your response. I know it is a popular question and I have read that people have taken the "combo" of effexor and wellbutrin but I needed reassurance. I am soo glad I found this site! Thank you for your advice. I will look for that. Thanx, steph
