I've just started taking Effexor the last 2 days and have been experiencing some chest pain. Has anyone had this happen?

The patient information sheet says: "Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: black stools, ***chest pain***, "coffee-ground" vomit, difficulty urinating, easy bruising/bleeding, fast heartbeats, seizures."
Call your doctor's office, or go to an emergency room if you're unable to consult with your doctor. They'll probably just tell you to stop taking it, but don't take any chances.

I agree with Larry. Check this. When the pain is permanent or is starting/growing when you walk I would even call your doctor from your home and dont go out and try to be calm. Don't panic, maybe nothing is wrong with your chest.

I know the feeling all too well. Not specifically with Effexor but with SSRI's and stimulants (not taken together).I agree calling your Dr. would be a good idea. Hope you get this sorted out. I empathize with your situation.

I usually have chest pain with noradrenergic antidepressants.
I had chest pain with effexor, but the doctor was adament on continuing with it, so he added some atenolol which helped.

Chest pain is nothing to mess around with check it out. And do not drive yourself call the ER and ask what they think. Probably an EKG is in order. Fondly, Phillipa ps an you don't mention your age.

Walker, probably you have a variant angina which are manifest episodes of focal coronary artery spasm in the absence of atherosclerotic lesions (Prinzmedal's angina). I dont know about Effexors pharmacology but if its a noradrenergic drug it can cause artery spasm. How old are you? If you are older its possible you have stable/unstable angina. You did not mention if you had a similar pain before this happend with Effexor.
Tell us what happend in the meantime. I hope you're well.
-> linkadge I dont know what your age is but please take care inspite you take an atenolol because of Effexors chest pain properties. I dont like somebody here having plaque rupture and following thromobembolism caused by coronary artery spasm.
