Been self medicating...

Posted by TrishP on December 19, 2005, at 9:54:45

I've been self medicating lately with Phentermine during the day for energy and Klonopin and wine (not at the same time) for anxiety.

Terrified to go back to Effexor because of the nasty withdrawl (if I just missed one day! of the 75mg)

I actually kinda enjoy the wine, but I know it's not a long term fix. I need to do something about the anxiety. If I could just relax, I know I would enjoy life a lot more. It effects my marriage and my relationships with my family.

I hate taking drugs that make me feel sleepy and groggy.

Klonopin does work pretty good. I am only taking it as needed (.5 mg a day or so).

I know the Phentermine probably agrivates the anxiety, but it doesn't make me a mean nasty person like the Wellbutrin.

I could go back to the 75mg Effexor and 150 - 200 mg Wellbutrin.

I need to ease the anxiety and spark an interest in sex. Help!
Any thoughts?

I want to be a nicer person in 2006.

Have you gotten to try neurontin?
I have taken it combined with klonopin for over 5 years and it has been a pretty good combo for anxiety. It might even take the edge off of the phentermine...dunno.

I hear you...I self-medicate too. Vicodin or tramadol give me the ability to have a bit of energy and to meet peoples' eye when I talk to them.
I know that it's not a long term solution, but for now.....

Is phentermine very intense? Do you think it makes you more antsy while giving you energy?

Good luck to you...

Diane

PS: I think that I, personally, have sexual problems from neurontin, but I have read post where people say that they have even more amazing orgasms with it!!!! It's a weird drug....

Since vicodin is an opiod is that why it helps and gives a lift? And how do you get it with a script? Fondly, Phillipa ps you must have a nice doc to rx it for you

I dont know what to tell you. Phentermine isn't all that problematic--like other stimulants, theres a risk of dependence (pretty small) and a very small risk of psychosis, but thats about it. I dont want to say self-medicate but..if its working, and you feel better, maybe its not so bad, afterall. Wellbutrin does make some people crazy and/or mean, so you have a valid reason not to take it.

Trish:

Here's my 2 cents worth. I have seen and heard from many that take klonopin without sucess at low doses like you're taking. It didn't work for me until I got over 1mg.

I'm currently taking 2mgs at night. Because it has a long half life you don't need to take it twice a day or in the morning like shorter acting meds.

By taking it at night it will probably help with sleep and reduce daytime drowsyness (which goes away in time, but the anti anxiety benefits seem to remain). A higher dose may give you additional anxiety benefits that your missing.

I would consider going up to higher doses taken at night and you might find the answer.

Just keep in mind that all drugs work differently for everyone. I just read your post and have seen so many that may be taking a great drug for their problem, just not an affective dose.

The same thing happened with my Mom (this anxiety stuff seems to run in families). After klonopin worked for me, her doc gave it to her. She was taking .5mgs and it wasn't helping. Once she got to 1.5mgs her life changed, the anxiety manageable. Like me, once a day at night.

I'm obviously pitching because it's the best thing I've ever tried, and I've tried a lot. Hope this is of some help. Good luck!

Phillipa.

Yes, I think the opiod thing gives me a lift.
I have some back pain, so the GP often will give me some for "flare ups".

Tramadol is easy to get. I;ll say no more, lest I be blocked :-)
