Has anyone's libido/sex drive been helped by SSRI

Posted by Marc Boucher on November 29, 2005, at 22:48:43

Hi all,

It's well known that depression and/or dysthymia can cause one to have a low sex drive. Now 90% of people's reports I'Ve read to this day points out that SSRI's kill libido.

My question is : have anyone recovered their sex drive wit hthe use of SSRI's only ?

I'd really like to get much feedback on this.

Thanks
Marc

Yep. There maybe a link between AD's and low testosterone but it could also be depression itself. I highly suspect AD's.

Not with SSRI's alone, at least not that I have heard of. Wellbutrin can improve libido alone or with other AD's. So have added Wellby to their regimen and posted here that is helps. It tends to have the lowest rate of side effects in this area.

Prozac enhanced libido for me. Lexapro at first hurt it, but then libido was fine after a couple weeks. All the others were anti-libido indefinitely.

Prozac is an atypical ssri, in that it causes a release of dopamine and norepinephrine in a way that none of the others do.

Blocking the particular 5HT receptors involved with ssri side effects can help. For me, even just a miniscule 1.25mg zyprexa does that.
