Hmmmm, I personally haven't a clue. I am sure someone else can answer this but I do believe sometimes when you take certain meds they can show up as other things on drug tests. I have never had to take a drug test that I remember but I think they do ask you what medications you are on for this very reason.

I know this happened to someone I know once in a drug treatment program (the false PCP positive) evidently this happens every once in a while -
why does the PCP come up positive when it's not? I don't know. This particular person might have been on lamictal - I don't know
I guess reporting the meds you're on is a good way to go though. Personally I hate giving that info to employers (employee health dept only of course) I've had to do it a few times now. Personally, I think it's none of their freakin' business, but since you've got a benzo in there it's probably a good idea. I actually had to get a letter from my pdoc once certifying my good mental health. It was ridiculous.
Sorry and good luck.

Woolav yup bring all the meds. And maybe even tell them what your own drug test said. Ask them why this could happen or call your psychiatrist and ask him first. And tell them if they have any questions to call him and he can vouche for you. Fondly, Phillipa

In my opinion, the company doesnt need to know more than they have to ... perhaps legal counsel could walk you through this, if passing this drug test is important enough for you.

If this is an employer, then you have certain rights that protect your privacy. And if you do have to reveal your meds, then you want to make sure ONLY the person that needs to know gets to know.

It's really no big deal that you are on the meds because just about everyone out there is taking something, but I could see some issues arising if you do not handle this properly.

I took it and passed..yea
I did tell them ahead of time that i was taking prescription drugs. but they said to go ahead and take it and then if something came up, they would talk to me about it...
but i passed. the test they gave didnt check for pcp. i still dont like the idea that one of my meds causes that type of reaction.
but anyway, i got the job...

CONGRATULATIONS!!! (nm) » woolav

That's great, congratulations!

Sometimes lab tests are very sensitive to positive results, but they are not very specific. So your at home test might have triggered a positive due to being sensitive, but it may not be all that specific to what it is measuring, so it thought it was PCP.

At any rate, glad you got the job.
