my psych doc diagnosed with me possibly pyschotic depression because of the thoughts of hurting my youngest son from two bad med combos phentermine and paxil. the weight dr told me it was ok to take. well it wasnt. well i would not dare hurt my son. its those racing thoughts. well i went to mhmr and they put me on zoloft 50mg the voices went away im guessing maybe 25% of the thoughts were still there. i was doing find for about 2 years. well in feb of this year.

The thoughts starting coming back stronger so i went to a med dr and he upped the dose to 100mg well that made things worst. oh mhmr put me on celexa first and that really helped out but i gained a lot of weight from it. well i went to another psyc doc before this last psyc doc and he gave me effexor xr-37.5 for 1st week and 75 the second week and risperdal 1mg. the risperdal really made me have bad nightmares and headaches in the morning. i liked the effexor but at 75mg my blood pressure went ski high. so i went to another med doc and he put me on lexapro, seroquel, and klonopin. the lexapro made me have bad moods. so right now i am taking 100mg of seroquel, amitriptyline 25mg and .5 of klonopin. my appt is on friday. i have gained 6 pounds so far and he says its from the seroquel.

well he wants me to abilify but i have read it makes you real anxious. i am just wondering do i really need an antipsychotic can he just put me on a tricyclic and depressant. i mean at first the celexa did help with the thoughts. \

any good med combos for psychotic depression. my new psyc doc wants to get those thoughts cleared first and possibly diagnosing me also with ocd. my son lives at my moms house. i love him so much. i know i would never hurt him. but its those dam racing thoughts going on in my minds are those hallucinations or just horrible racing thoughts. i just want some depressant and/or an antipsychotic if really needed. i need some feedback thanks

Phentimine is a stimulant-like Ritalin, God knows why you were put on that?-which is used to SPEED up metabolism 4 weight loss.

Take 3-5 grams Omega 3 fish oils to help out.

Cheers

I should have also mentioned clozapine as a desirable alternative to molindone.

Psychotic depression = antipsychotic, either zyprexa, seroquel, or abilify. Your seroquel dose is pretty low.

I guess an antipsychotic would be in order. But are you really depressed? Could you be bipolar with the racing thoughts? That can resemble a psychosis in the manic phase. Fondly, Phillipa

Have you ever tried lithium or Depakote in the past?

Its great you are working to figure this out.

Also how about exercising 3 x per week? One study showed regular exercise was just as effective as medication at treating depression. It was equally effective to the antidepressant they compared it to, at 12 weeks. Meaning just as good. Also means adding exercise to medication might have an additive effect. They've also shown exercise increases growth factors in the brain, encouraging brand new neurons to grow.

I agree with whoever posted about the fish oil or fatty acids....studies also find a good effect of it.

Both of the above can take some time to work, but worth it to do as much as possible naturally to avoid too many medications.

What were your first symptoms? Were you depressed first, followed by the thoughts being problematic? Did it start within the first year of your child being born or ?

Are you worse in the fall and winter? (If so add vitamin D and get a lightbox (10,000 lux).)

How about other health problems? Have you had hormones levels checked ?(TSH and thyroid antibodies, and FSH, and 24 hour cortisol would be a good start).

Kate
