Prozac with stimulants

Posted by University on November 8, 2005, at 22:53:40

I've been on Prozac--and sundry stimulants--for many years. Currently, I'm taking ~40 fluoxetine/day and 80/methylphen./day. It's all a vain effort to counteract the apathy caused by Prozac. Thing is, Prozac relieved my unbearable depression, and I'm loath to change to something else...

Sounds likme me, prozac seems to be the best, not perfect, but the best of the bunch!, and i'm at a comparable level of methylphenidate. Did this work better than the other stims?.

Which other Stims did you take? dose?

cheers alot!!

Not me Phillipa, can make me tired, even with Ritalin, Valium-

Serotonin causes sedation-3 days isn't enought, 4 weeks more like it?

Cheers

Hi ya Phillipa!!

been on prozac over a week now. I was using Ritalin for depresion, which is not the answer, i know. But i REALLY want to get well, drop the drink down and perhaps the meds too.

I know it takes 4 weeks for Prozac to work-or any AD-so i'll stick with it, i have to-i wanna life.

Distraction during this time will help so.....

Cheers:)

I have take Prozac 20mg and Dexedrine 30mg

It seems stimulating at low doses but at higher its more serogeneric, less effect of the amphetamine.

I do notice i feel the Ritalin less, as my Serotonin levels have risen-apparently a see-saw action with Dopamine,

If you raise Dopamine with a stimulant it dominates, and you feel alert, semi OCD, and sleepless.

The key maybe is to have equal levels of Serotonin and Dopamine?

I still wanna trial Dex thou, don't know much effect it would have at this stage?

Cheers

Not sure if it helps but I'll add my experience with the two.

I started Prozac around 5 weeks ago. At first I found it too sedating, I was non-functional, my short term memory was totally shot. I added a bit of Adderall from my cabinet, that brought me back to normal alertness. I have mild ADD but in this case was using it for its alerting properties. Just used it that week.

Then I acclimated to that effect of Prozac and the bump up in drive effect took over, I didn't try Adderall then as I felt it would add to the agitation.

I've since quit the prozac, too easily irritated on it. There is definitely something to having a balance of drive and focus/reward and contentedness, my guess at norepi, dopamine and serotonin's main effects. Certainly lots of people on ssris complain their ADHD worsens. But some of the studies say ssris improve it, at least the behavioral aspects that other people are annoyed by.

i once was on prozac and ritalin....woooooowwweeeeeee!!! i wasnt apathetic, but i wasnt 'normal' either. i may have hypomanic, but it sure was fun. at least till tolerance set in. give it a try and if nothing, theres a truckload of stimulants and other meds that can help.
