Placidyl?

Posted by med_empowered on November 8, 2005, at 4:50:29

Has anyone taken this medication? Is it still on the market? I've read that it tends to be addictive, mind-dulling, etc. but also it seems to work for some people with treatment-resistant insomnia (presumably its only used for a short time period). Is it still on the market in the US? And what about the other non-barbiturate sleeping pills of that era...Doriden, Noludar, etc. ? Whatever happened to those?

Placidyl got removed a while back, i think in 1998-1999. I read some source ill have to go back and check. It is no longer availiable in the US.

Quualude got removed in 1985, becuase of many recreational uses, and it was at the time considered a barbiturate in prescribing after 1980.

Zuegma has some ad's for Placidyl on his website back in the 1960's

I've taken Doriden, never Placidyl, and I took chloral hydrate in the encapsulated formulation. Is Placidyl paraldehyde? That's supposed to be nauseating, William Burroughs being my source. They're all pretty dreadful I think.
