Risperdal and toothache

Posted by 4wd on November 6, 2005, at 21:44:38

Hi all.

About 3-4 days after starting Risperdal I noticed that 2 teeth on the upper left side of my mouth were extremely sore. I couldn't chew there. At first I didn't think anything of it but thought it might possibly have something to do with the Risperdal since Lamictal made my teeth hurt. But it passed off and was okay. Then about 3 days later, one tooth on the bottom right got excruciating sore and is hurting a lot. I stopped the Risperdal, just in case. I was only taking .25 mg for a little over a week.

I looked on the web and toothache is listed as a rare side effect of Risperdal but I swear that tooth feels just like it's absessed. I know my pdoc is going to think I'm crazy if I tell him Risperdal gave me an absessed tooth!

Just wanted to post this in case someone else experienced this problem - you'll know you're not the only one.

Also, since stopping the Risperdal, I've only missed one day of it! I feel terrible. Very anxious, more depressed. How long might this last? I'll post on Withdrawal Board.

Would taking a Zyprexa counteract the effects of the Risperdal? I know it would make the ride down a little smoother.

Believe me, I know. If there is a weird side effect from a medication, I will get it. I am one of the 2% of people who get tinnitus from Effexor. The rate for toothache from Risperdal is also 2%. But this really feels like an absessed tooth. It is killing me and I can't take pain meds because I am in recovery from abusing hydrocodone. I'm taking ibuprofen and naprosyn by the handsful.

Marsha I'm the same way. But sometimes I think it's psychological and it's really physical. So can you make an appointment with your dentist just to make sure? Fondly, Phillipa
