Finally (and about time too)........

.......generic sertraline (Zoloft, Lustral) is now available in the UK. Escitalopram (Lexapro, Cipralex) is now the only SSRI which is not available as a generic in the UK. Generic fluoxetine is by far the cheapest SSRI here. In fact, it's pretty much the cheapest AD of all.

Doesn't the UK have a national health service? Do you have to pay for meds anyway?

Hi!

>Doesn't the UK have a national health service?

Yes, but doctors are keen to prescribe the cheapest meds because they want to stay within their drugs budgets - which they rarely do.

>Do you have to pay for meds anyway?

Two options:

1. You had an 'exemption' eg. over 60 yrs and therefore pay nothing.

2. You pay £6.50 per item. A drug worth £300 per box will cost you £6.50. A drug worth 20p per box will cost you £6.50.

Kind regards

Ed

PS. I welcome the introduction of generic sertraline. Lustral, the brand, was just too expensive. I don't like to waste resources, even if I'm not paying.

AFAIK, modern generics usually differ from the brand by a few percent only, up or down.

Love Ed xx
