Where are we??

Posted by willyee on August 23, 2005, at 6:41:53

Just wanted to throw in a thought or two.Where are we today in the treatment of emotional disorders.

Has anyone really looked at this board,WOW it`s basicaly a stomping ground, threads and threads of suffering in a lot of different ways.

Other than the supportive posts from the great people here youd have to search hard to find someone posting about success even then its mostly minimal.

I understant the respons,....Well most fixed people are not posting.....i am sure thats true and the are some who got well who will never know babble.

But do i think this is a vast majority of people ......NO.There are a few groups, message boards and its the same, thread to thread of suffering.

I find it hard to believe there is some vast majority of people having success with these current medication, instead im more opted to believe there are prob a LOT more sufferers out there who are not pc literate,or simply dont use the net,or havent run into babble etc.

Has anyone here ever took a look at the board in general and thought wow .

I think its a testament that we are trying to make gold from.....s- well u know the saying.

It shouldent be so hard for these meds to produce evven the slightest of reliaf, but it is,we augment them, swtich them etc.

I think groups like this need to be evaluted and i think its crucial that clinical mood disorders are studied more, whteht the companys wanna believe it or not these medications they are putting out are very simliar and they are simply not providing the reliaf thats needed.

Im sure many will disagree with me here, its just something i noticed i would not debate it maybe its just my imagination.

All i know is the only postive resources comming from groups like these are the INCREDABLE emotional support and understanding fellow sufferes are providing.

Its truly therapy!!!!

I totally agree.
I go to this board for the support more than anything. I think I would have given up with meds and perhaps other things had it not been for everyone who posts here.
I imagine dr.Bob is doing some sort of study on us. And I wonder what his findings are.

I'm sure his findings are conclusive. He must surely conclude that it is astounding how many people suffering so severely and so chronically with mental impairments can still bring themselves to become so well educated without possessing academic degrees. Furthermore, he must surely conclude that it is again astounding that from such negative affect can come such positive feedback and mutual support.

We are all astounding.

This is all very lovely.
Maybe we shouldn't feel so bad about ourselves.
Thankyou Scott.

I agree. You're right it seems as if those who post have not had good success with there meds. But the support from all of my friends is what keeps me trying. Fondly, Phillipa

Hi! man, you make an excellent point,
that was a great post!! one thing that stood out is what you said about how many of the "walking wounded" do not have access to a pc.

i can think of 3 friends and 2 close relatives right away!! i was speaking with a friend today, [college grad] who has tried every med available to him, and still suffers incredibly.

there are innumerable people who suffer in silence, or pray for ,[as my former pdoc so arrogantly puts it] the "magic bullet" to alleviate their suffering!!
it sux. this board is invaluable, i wish so many of my friends could or will come here, this is an excellent resource, and it does prove that contrary to what arrogant drug reps, and silly-*ssed commercials are touting, too many people are not getting adequate help!! [except Terry bradshaw, he seems to love his paxil].

i hate to say that, and i may be getting a tad off-subject, but when these celebrities say what a wonderful recovery they have made on x-medication, we who still suffer seem to be frowned on, in my case, even by some family members!! anyhoo, i hope there is a med, or combo for everyone here that someday makes us well. until that time it is great to share with all the cool people here..john

Hi,

Just want to say how I totally agree, I was only thinking the same thing myself this morning. When I'm really feeling desperate and at the end of my tether this site is the only place that provides me with some hope. And to see I'm not alone in my search for relief makes me feel just a little bit better.

Infact I've tried telling the various psychiatrists I've seen about this board as I think it's such a valuable source of information and a really good reflection of how people are responding to psycho drugs.

I was wondering if people with other illnesses (not mental) do as much scouring of the internet desperately searching for answers.

Denise
