Anxious and depressed again

Posted by TrishP on July 19, 2005, at 17:52:21

I switched to 200mg Wellbutrin SR (was taking 150XL) and I am still taking 75mg of Effexor. I was hoping to get rid of the Effexor side effects with the Well SR. I guess that has helped a little bit, but now I feel out of balance. I am more anxious and eating like a pig. And my anxiety causes depression and vise versa.

Not sure what I should do. I was thinking of stopping the Effexor, but I have to have something for the anxiety or I will eat myself out of my house!

Maybe I should go back the the Well XL.

Do I have to add an SNRI or SSRI to Wellbutrin to feel normal - and then not be able to enjoy sex, but I'll be happy? Or do I stick with Wellbutrin and find something to calm my anxiety without knocking me out?

I don't know what to do.

The celexa wellbutrin combo is supposedly a good one.

Hey! My first thought would be a Remeron+Wellbutrin+Buspar combo. Wellbutrin is kind of stimulating; people on it lose an average of 5lbs..it also can cause anxiety, but has few sexual side effects. Remeron is good for inducing sleep, calming anxiety...it also tends to make people gain weight :-( . If you don't have a huge insomnia problem, though, you could probably jump from 15mgs/ at nite to 30/mgs at nite; the higher dose actually reduces the likelihood of over-sedation and weight gain. Remeron has a better sexual side effects profile than the SSRIs, but it isn't all that popular in the US. It plays well with other drugs, so drug-drug interactions are pretty rare. Buspar is an odd anti-anxiety drug...its not sedating (once you adjust to it), it doesnt cause addiction...anyway, the usual starting dose is 15mgs/day, divided up into 3 even doses...your doc can start higher, and some docs do 2X dosing for convenience. It takes a while to start working, but it works for a lot of people...it seems to be particularly good for anti-depressant induced anxiety problems, which would make it an awesome choice for you. If you dont like it or choose to stop taking it at some point, you can do so without any major withdrawal problems. Buspar is also available in generic buspirone tablets, as is Remeron; be sure to ask your doc to sign off for a generic since some of them aren't so good about that.
