Agitation...Ambien???? Lamictal??

Posted by gardenergirl on July 7, 2005, at 0:23:48

Hi everyone,
I'm typing this while feeling very agitated; like I am going to jump out of my skin. I took a half an Ambien (approx. 5 mg) just before bed, and the agitation set in. Can this be ambien related? I have a similar though less intense response to benadryl.

I also recently upped my Lamictal to 75 mg, 25 in the a.m. and 50 in the evening Could the Lamictal increase be making me so restless?

This almost, but not quite, feels like a panic attack, but I don't have racing heart, shortness of breath, feel like I'm going to die, or have racing thoughts. It's just severe restlessness. I can't stay in bed, I've got to MOVE!

Thoughts anyone?

Ambien does nothing nearly like that for me -- just eases me off into LumLand.

Lamictal, though, is what caused my crazed crash last year, where I couldn't sleep, couldn't get comfortable no matter what I did, and I had horrible gross muscle twitches. Like kicking my husband out of our king sized bed muscle twitches, not like little twitches that are just irritating. It was horrible. I can't remember the dosage, but this started about five or six days after raising the dose.

On the other hand, that was just me...

Ambien made me tired too. But only lasted for 4 hours. haven't been on Lamictal. Fondly, Phillipa

Now I'm scared. Just started Lamictal ten days ago and am prone to restless legs. How long did it take for the agitation to go away after you stopped the Lamictal?

Hello,

I'm not sure about the Ambien or Benadryl, but I actually had a similar experience on Lamictal. For me it set in a couple of days after upping the dose and culminated in my first panic attack. If it's bearable, you could try riding it out. (I couldn't since my stress levels were already sky-high due to job interviews.) If not, you might also try upping by a smaller amount...

Good luck,

Hi everyone,
Thanks for input. I talked to pdoc yesterday, and she recommended I go back down to 50 mg. I doubt it could have such an immediate effect, but I slept like a baby last night with the help of Ambien and taking Lamictal down by one pill.

We'll see if that does the trick and if my mood stays non-depressed.
