Any recent advances in treatment of Social Phobia?

Posted by DavidLA on June 10, 2005, at 23:53:26

I haven't been keeping up with the latest advances in psychopharmacology for a couple of years now and was wondering if any advances had been made in the treatment of Social Phobia.

After having little success with SSRIs, benzos, and a lot of other meds, I've been taking Nardil for several years with fairly good results for both my depression and severe SP. However, I recently decided to go off Nardil because I had tired of the side effects (weight gain, insomnia, mania, inorgasmia, etc.) I have the slight hope that something "better" may have come along or that I may discover something that works for me that I haven't tried already.

Thanks,
DLA

High Dave

I'm wondering the same thing.

I'm thinking of going on Nardil, but am scared of the side effects.

Pregabablin worked in clinical trials for SA, but I didn't find it very useful, I think its best avioded, you might react differently though.

Phenibut intially worked quite well, but tolerance quickly built up.

I know you said benzo's didnt work that well for you. Were you on Klonopin? Because xanax pooped out on me after several years and my pdoc put me on klomopin last summer and it has really helped with SP. I can go out and meet new ppl and not feel panic'd anymore...its been a savior for me..

Is Parnate any good for it? Not as good as Nardil for SP, I know, but worth trying (assuming anhedonia/dysthymia)?
