I just started Parnate. No real change except stomach upset/diarrhea until I got up to 30mg/day last Thu. (today is Sunday), and I almost cannot get out of bed from being so tired and weary. No change in the depression. I am also taking ativan and klonopin as needed. I feel like I am pushing through water to get anything done. Has anyone else had this experience upon starting out? Any suggestions? Will it get better? Thanks, Lauren

*hugs* i can really relate. Parnate was GREAT for my depression, also at 30mg. But I just felt exausted. I would have to have a sleep at 5pm everyday. I would drink coffee to try and wake me up but then my blood presure would go up, so I dont know really want to do to solve a problem like that. I got use to it over time I guess. Maybe you will too?
Take careChris.

Hello, Lauren.
I was on Parnate for about five years. I had the opposite effect; I couldn't sleep well. I would doze off for about three hours and wake up with a tremendous amount of energy. It was a very odd experience.
It took a few weeks before the Parnate began working for me. I had problems with fatigue in the morning, but I don't think it was because of this medication. I've had trouble sleeping for many years.
Stick to the dietary restrictions and monitor your bloodpressure. I had problems with my legs/knees losing their strength from time to time, but that was at higher doses than what you are currently on.
The anxiety/depression was lessened somewhat and I had more energy. It was like a sedating and stimulating sensation.
I think you should give it more time.
(Oh, don't be concerned about my username. I don't think the medication caused any damage to my brain. Sorry if might have gotten that impression. )
Good luck, Lauren. I hope the medication helps you.

I don't sleep that well, either. I just never quite feel awake. I am also waking several times during the night which could be what is making me so tired daily. I also find myself having to take a nap in the afternoon. Thanks for the advice. I guess I just want to know if it's worth it (i.e. will it work on the depression?) and will I get used to the side effects and/or will they subside? I can't tell you how much I appreciate the support. Lauren

Hi Lauren,
If you don't get enough responses here, you might want to post on the Yahoo MAOI board. Here's the link if you aren't already aware of the site:
