Cymbalta

Posted by annamaynot on June 1, 2005, at 9:25:48

I have been on Cymbalta for 5 months now and feel so good. I have had chronic pain and depression for most of my 62 years on this planet and feel that if I had Cymbalta 50 or more years ago my life would have been completely different. Whatever it is, it is just what I am lacking. For the first time that I can EVER remember, I feel like I am who I am supposed to be.

That is wonderful! Have you noticed any weight gain?

Excellent! I have been on it about the same length of time and I'm very pleased with it too. At first I had a little problem with amotivation, weight gain and a slight rise in blood pressure, but my pdoc and I have tweaked the dosage and added Wellbutrin to the mix and I feel better than I have in a long time.

I have not had a weight gain, but I am not thin anyway. I have had no side effects at all. I do not feel as if I am taking any meds.

That's great to hear! How many milligrams do you take? Are you on any other meds or just Cymbalta?

I'm taking 60 mg once a day. I take it first thing in the morning.

Not any more. I used to take sleeping meds too, but I am off everything but the Cymbalta. I do have a bit of a problem with sleep still, but tried Lunesta and it gave me a terrible taste in my mouth so I decided not to take anything.

How long before it began to work? I tried it first at 30mg and then 60mg and didn't have side effects either. But I only took it for about a month at 60mg. It did take my aches and pains away. I didn't notice this until I stopped. Maybe I quit too soon. Fondly, Phillipa

I think that it was a gradual release from the pain. It seemed as if the pain receded from the inside out. I believe that it was about 6 weeks before the pain level was down to a point where it really made a substantial difference. After that, this is hard to describe, but I could still 'feel' where the pain had been. It was as if all my nerve endings were still jittery, but the pain itself had dissipated. Now, I rarely have that kind of pain. I broke both feet, ankles, toes a few years ago and still have the stiffness and residual pain from that accident, but the constant 'hurt everywhere' pain that my doctor diagnosed as fibromyalgia is gone. It makes life much easier and so much more pleasant! For the first time I go to bed at night being content that I will be alive in the morning instead of wondering how long I can live like this. Try the Cymbalta for a while longer. The 60 mg is working for me.

My mood and my sleep were so fantastic when I was on 60mg Cymbalta. And I had zero pain (usually chronic in my neck and back). But I was starting to gain weight, was having problems with amotivation, and my blood pressure was up a little. That's when I dropped down to 40mg Cymbalta and added 200mg Wellbutrin SR to augment. (I was already on 450mg Trileptal, cause I'm BP2.) I'll tell you, I'm feeling really good, but I felt great on 60mg. No mania... slept like a rock. Sigh.

Good for you, I switched from Lexapro to Cymbalta and it is making me crazy nervous so I take small dosage. I can't switch back bc I'm out of work (no Insurance) and I think under my circumstance no pill can help me

My son has no insurance either and is getting his meds through a program for free (or almost). I saw the ad on TV and called for him. It is PPARx.org It was very easy and quick. He needs respiratory meds monthly. Try it and see if it can be of help. I know I filled out a form or so online and they sent the rest of the info to him, he took it to the doctor and they did the rest. Also, my daughter told me to ask the doctor for samples. I did before I started since my insurance only does mail order and ships 3 months at a time - which can be very expensive if it turns out that the med doesn't work for you. My doctor gave me samples for the first month or so till we were sure it was good for me. I hope this helps you.
