moved up to 6mg of Lorazepam [Ativan]

Posted by Rjlockhart98 on May 27, 2005, at 15:52:39

went to the doctor again and told him exactly what i posted on these boards. It sometimes bearly touches me, or when it does it doesnt do much, with 1mg of lorazepam.

I asked him if i could go back to klonopin with 1mg, he said no no no, where staying with this now.

Uhg, 2 months ago he was acting as if ativan was a barbiturate medication or something.

Now he's promoting it like its better than klonopin.

Again, lorazepam isnt nearly as sedating as clonazepam, and its alot well, less noticeable, at 2mg now, i notice a more "numbed" output feeling of anxiety, but there's no "relief" feeling. It more makes you sit back, clonazepam around 1.5 1.25mg for me makes me more social, and in the mood for talk. Ativan doesnt have much of this chaisteristic. Its just a "plain" benzo, not many quialies to it, exept anti-manic which makes me depressed. For panic disorder it is not very effective, it will take off the edge of the panic attack, but doesnt really prevent them for me.

Anyways does any else here take plain ativan.

take care everyone

matt

Hi Matt,

>Anyways does any else here take plain ativan.

I've tried it. My doctor believes it's very potent but I always needed at least 3mg per dose to make a difference! IMO, it's not as potent as it's given credit for. I didn't find it particularly sedating but it did seem to cause a certain amount of amnesia.

Kind regards,
Ed.

Hi Matt
30 years ago I took Ativan and didn't like it because it made me amnesic to a degree, (which I still recall). Benzos were rxd and taken more freely then (before tolerance had really developed too), and likely the dose was way too high. But it remains my least favourite benzo.

Have you ever take Alprazolam? [xanax]

i hear the problem with it is mainly tolerance.

I rather take Klonopin than xanax, but i've never taken it before.

Ativan doesnt really seem to have a tolerance problem with me, just a potency problem.

lazy lorazepam ; )

stay cool

About 8 years ago when I couldn't tolerate Celexa any longer my old pdoc Rx'd ativan at about 6mg. My husband's family said I was the best they'd seen me. I remember feeling normal. I didn't have amnesia either. Fondly, Phillipa

Yeah, once I did, but my tolerance may have been such that it didn't quite do it for me. People (chemist is one of course) say good things about it. I've never taken the extended release version, maybe that would deal with the short half life and unevenness. I try to take as little benzo as possible, especially during the day, because I need it to have some chance of a decent sleep.

I take 2mg at night and was told by my pdoc that is a very large dose. You take 6 mg? at once?
