Hi, I have never taken this drug, but just from reading about the side effects, it seems it would not be a good anti-anxiety drug:
Side effects:
Somnolence, dry mouth, nervousness, insomnia, dizziness, tremor, agitation, asthenia, abnormal ejaculation, g.i. disturbances including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, anorexia and dyspepsia. Rare cases of seratonin syndrome, particularly when combined with other serotonergic drugs.
The last thing a person with anxiety problems (one of my many issues) would want is to feel more nervous!! Have you tried Klonopin? Thats really the only thing that has helped greatly with my panic disorder.

Yeah. Doses from 0.5mg-10mg(!). It worked only at first week or so (at 2mg). Xanax on the other hand was the only benzo that worked but tolerance went WAY UP VERY FAST.

Have you tried a beta blocker? Or a calcium channel blocker? Propranalol worked well for me for anxiety, better -- much, much better -- than any benzo.

My anxiety problems are more physical than mental, so breaking the physical cycle is the key. But, it might be helpful for you, too.

Racer,

I have just been prescribed propanolol for anxiety also. Does it take time to work up to having an effect? Or does it begin to help at the first dose? I mean will I need to wait a week or longer before I feel the anti-anxiety effects?

THanks so much.

Marsha

When I was Rx'd luvox it was the only Ad I ever tolerated. Of course the pdoc had me on 5mg of ativan too. And chloral hydrate at bedtime. But I felt great. Even thought I was hypomanic for about a week or two. Then it stopped working for me and I could only tolerate small doses of it. Fondly, Phillipa

Luvox definately works good for anxiety and far better than the other SSRI's in my opinion. It has helped me a great deal with my OCD and some with my anxiety---i also take klonopin as well. This is an awesome combo.

I realize this is an old post but wondering if you're still taking the propranolol for anxiety? Do you take any other meds?
Thanks
