Cross-talk

Posted by FredPotter on May 12, 2005, at 15:56:16

I have problems with thinking, particularly when doing something like watching TV. I'm in the middle of a thread of thought then it's gone and I can't remember what it was. This causes a lot of tension. I can also read the page of a book and then realise I was thinking of something else throughout and not know what I've read. Is this normal, a product of anxiety or mild schizophrenia? Or is it drug induced (Celexa, Xanax, Lithium)?

I've ALWAYS been like that. I often pay little attention to what I'm doing!

its not normal, it can be drug induced. they are classic for mild "ADHD" I cant hold a train of thought for more then like 2 seconds. it really sucks... my mind just goes blank. stimulants help alot, unfortunatly not a permanent cure.

And i thought I was the only one. Even when I was doing well in nursing school I had to read something 3 times to remember it. Fondly, Phillipa

Hi Fred,
you are not the only one. This can be caused by many factors. ADD, ADHD, anxiety, depression. I said once, I could not read a single line of text when I was deeply depressed.

Hi,
me too. I am being treated for ADD. I feel much better now that I am on medication. I hope everything works out for you.

I went to take the dog for a walk.........
two blocks later I discovered I had forgotten to bring the dog.

Ha! That's funny. Well sort of. Thanks everybody for your reassurances. I remember my Mother used to walk into a room and say, "Now why have I come in here?" And I'm always opening the fridge and gazing inside waiting to recall what I wanted. I think it's probably caused by depression and anxiety. I suppose the trick is to not let it provoke more anxiety
