Getting around the dopamine blockade (libido issue

Posted by sdjeff on May 4, 2005, at 23:41:24

My pdoc told me that the probable reason my libido is so low is that my Zyprexa blocks dopamine. Is there a way around this? I can't take Wellbutrin because I had a major allergic reaction to it.

I've tried natural aphrodisiacs. (yohimbe, horny goat weed, etc.) I can't afford Viagra or Cialis.

am I out of options?

Try a strong cup of coffee and see what that does for you.

What happened with the natural ones? All the ones you mentioned were problematic with me. What happens if you reduce your Zypexa a bit? Is it supposed to increase prolactin? Yeah and thats inversely related to dopamine, isn't it?

Horny goat weed = nothing at at all
Yohimbe = hellish anxiety, irregular heartbeat, akathesia

What happens if you reduce your Zypexa a bit?

I get psychotic. Unfortunately I can't reduce the dose.

Yes, you should look into DA agonists. Try this:

1) cabergoline 0.5mg twice weekly
2) pramipexole, ropinirole (dont know dose off the top of my head)
3) amantadine 200mg bid
4) bromocriptine 1.25-2.5mg/day

Any of these will also augment antidepressant effects, especially 1, 2, or 4 at higher dosages.

Cabergoline sounds kind of interesting. Anyone tried it, or know any stuff.
