Lamictal

Posted by tom_traubert on May 4, 2005, at 15:06:58

So the anxiety, panic, racing thoughts were just a little too much to bear. For the first time in 6 years I started on meds again, but only Klonopin. right now I'm on 1 mg a day. It has helped immensely.

I did an extensive history with my pdoc and the long and short of it is he thinks that ssri's and tricyclics may have a causative effect of mania for me, and he wants to keep away from them. His top suggestion is Lamictal. I have no idea, no experience , know nothing about this drug. I searched the Dr. bob pages, but wanted to start a new thread for the most up to date info on people's experience/knowledge of the drug.

I'm still not sure I want to take anything other than the klonopin, but I'm keeping my options open.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi - I switched to Lamictal after taking Depakote, then Trileptal (all mood stabilizers). I think I like the Lamictal better than the Trileptal because I don't feel quite as flat. I took Depakote a long time ago and i don't really remember anything negative about it, but you have to get blood tests.

I would suggest you try the Lamictal and just hope it doesn't make you too flat.

Hi, just wanted to say that out of the several AP type drugs out there, lamictal seems the best to me.

Hi,
I take Lamictal and like it. My doctor started me on it at 25 mg two months ago. I'm now up to 100mg. I felt an antidepressant effect when I started it which has since gone away.

I am on 50 mg of lamictal. It worked fine the first 4 months. The last 4 are just so so. Do you think I need to talk to my pdoc and have the dose raised?

thanks for responding!

Can you tell me of any side effects you may have experienced, physical symptoms?

And if you're ok with sharing, what the original diagnosis was when you started on lamictal?

thanks,
tt

I have posted extensively about my experience with Lamictal. I think it is great.

My main concern is about the dosage I am on at 50 mg.

The reason I am on Lamictal is because I went into a hypomaina on Celexa.

I am now feeling less emotion than I want.

I have Borderline, PTSD, depression and axiety. I was on Trileptal for a long time and switched to 200 MG Lamictal. Don't know that it's helping, but no side effects. I also take 300 MG Zoloft, 200 MG Topomax, 600MG Seroquel, 1 MG Klonopin and 8 MG Zanaflex. With all that, it's hard to tell what's doing what.
