Whenever I go to a new doctor, they always spend a couple of hours reading over my history so that they can prescribe the same things that never worked.
I have a severe distractability problem, but with my history of anxiety, doctors don't want to presribe a stimulant.
I tell them that I drink coffee like water, and that it helps calm me down and concentrate, they sum that up to the idea that I'm addicted to it, and so we get nowhere.
Sorry for all the compaining.

You would think that they should be reading your history so that they DON'T give you what hasn't helped in the past. I guess that is in a perfect world huh? I'm sorry to hear that hasn't happened for you.
i would encourage you to tell your current (or next?) pdoc durectly about this concern. Say that you do not want to try what you have tried before because it hasn't been helpful. Tell them that you are sick of retrying the same old things.
Also, I have a nasty history of anxiety, but I take dexedrine (to augment antidepressants, not for ADHD) and it seems to be fine so far. In fact, my pdoc said that this is the sort of thing that is hard to predict. Stimulants don't always increase anxiety in anxious people. I also should note that even the tiniest dose of wellbutrin put my anxiety though the roof, so I was particularly worried about starting a stim.
Perhaps you need to find a different doc. Or maybe you could tell him/her that you read online abt some anxious people doing well on stims and you want to try to see if you fall into that category too.
Also, most stims are so short-acting that if they make you anxious, you can just stop!

I'd love for once just to get the royal treatment. Goodness knows, all of us deserve it, but sometimes you wish it was you.
My doctor is a 2 hour drive away. I drive 2 hours for him to see me for 10-15 minautes and tell me I need more serotonin. I just wish psychiatry wasn't so faceless these days.
Had to stop the clomipramine sice it was giving me what I'd call convulsions. It's just gone downhill from there.
I have absolutely no hope. If I tell the doctor that the clomipramine was throwing me off the bed like the girl from the exorcist, he'll tell me to take a warm bath and up my medication.
I beat my head against the wall every day cause I just keep going in the same old circle.
God knows I do everything in my power to combat my condition, but you can't find a doctor these days who repects that sincerity and who wants to do something for you novel. You know, somebody who wants to get you to a passing grade.

Hmmmh...I react the same way to dexedrine versus wellbutrin. I'm also frequently anxious but also depressed. Thought I was unique.. Oh well..
