Lexapro Increase?

Posted by njsurfer on April 22, 2005, at 11:25:05

I have been on Lexapro since the end of january now. I have been taking 10mg and i thought it was working pretty well, yet i have felt my depression and anxiety creeping back in. I have gone through a lot of changes in the past few weeks, I have moved, i got a dog, and there are some extremely stressful situations going on at work. I have actually had to take some klonopin .25mg just to calm myself down the past week or so. Do you think it would be feasible to move my dosage up to 20 mg? I had an initial appointment to see a pdoc, but they moved it back another 2 months, so i am going to go see the Nurse practioner so i can atleast have some med management. Has anyone else needed to up their dose, and did it help at all....thanks

I have been on Lexapro over 10 months. Lex started pooping out at around 7 months and I finally went to my pdoc in the 9th month for a possible increase from 30mg to 40mg, but instead he added Wellbutrin SR 150mg 2 times daily.

I noticed a difference in the first week. I had more energy and my depression was lifting. Now in the 10th month, I am still energetic, no longer wanting to sleep all the time and my depression is in check. Of course everyone reacts differently. Good luck.

Did the Lexapro actually help the anxiety? Did you have to wait a long time for it to help? Fondly, Phillipa

Phillipa,

Were you asking me or njsurfer? As for me, I guess I am not quite sure what anxiety is. If it is constantly worrying for no reason, then I had little anxiety. Lexapro, for me, lifted my depression for a good 6 months, then started pooping out, and it was not until my pdoc added Wellbutrin that my depression began lifting again within the first week of adding Wellbutrin.

No I'm really not surfing. I'm just trying to understand these meds. When I took or tried Lexapro it shot my anxiety sky high and I had to stop it. Now I've even taken 60mg of cymbalta and none of the meds touch me. I'm just trying to understand and probably asking a lot more questions trying to understand. I hope I didn't offend you. Fondly, Phillipa

Phillipa,

I was referring to a previous post, by njsurfer. I was asking you if you were asking me, Flipsactown (aka FST) or the other poster, njsurfer, and you did not offend me at all.

I have been on Lex 2+ years, started @5mg currently @40mg. Had trouble w/anxiety increasing during 4-5th weeks, but not since. Each time I increased I got good results. Pdoc said body *gets used* to dosage after a while and an increase may help. As always you should consult pdoc on these matters. Best of luck~~~8|8
