Hullo dear people,
I am an effexor XR veteran. Now after a year of happily using 150mg the med pooped-out on me. After discontinuing for a year I tried it again though 150mg failed to work for me. So I went with 225mg, which was better not not completely. So I decided to up the dosage te 262.5mg.
Now my shrink say's it's ok to open up the 75mg caps and split the content in half, estimate-wise. So now I take half a capsule and stick it in some organic rollingpaper (what can I say, I'm from Amsterdam) and swallow it. Thing is though, I'm three weeks on and up and down like a yoyo. My worrie is that b/c of the inaccurate splitting of the capsules, my bloodplasma levels aren't constant, resulting in this constant mood-shift. Or am I speculating? And should I shut up and be a patient patient? I dunno, I tend to worrie, you know?

I don't know exactly how things work in Amsterdam (although I've heard stories, ha!), but can you call up the pharmacy there and ask a pharmacist??
I do that becuase I swear the pharmacist seem to be more informed about medications than the doctor's and they are always more than willing to answer these kind of questions.
I wish I knew the answer for you but I have no idea. I've never taken that stuff.

I also take Effexor and I think you should go right up to 300mg rather than splitting up the beads in the caps. That way you know for sure what you're getting. It's SO important to keep that level steady, it's not that high a dose and it would be worth a try. The rolling paper thing sounds interesting though. My girlfriend and I went to Holland after college graduation and had a wild and crazy time in Amsterdam. My cousin, originally from Ireland, was living in Utrecht so we had a place to stay. I have to say that I'd love to return some day!
Good luck. I hope the Effexor works out for you again. It hasn't pooped out on me yet and it'll be a year in May with a short time off of it when I tried Cymbalta.

Spriggy: nah, the pharmacy claims they don't have the right equipment to split the caps themselves. Thanks though!Colleen: Yeah, you might have a point there. I shall take it into consideration. Hate that two week period though, when you've just upped the dose. Worth it though, I guess.
Glad you enjoyed Amsterdam, I guess that it's somewhat notorious overseas huh?
