Excessive erections on Prozac?

Posted by 3 Beer Effect on April 5, 2005, at 21:39:45

Hello,

For the last six months I have been on one med only - Generic Prozac 20 mg every morning (+ I drink coffee/diet dr peppers but I haven´t drank alcohol since new years eve). It has basically cured my shyness but I now have a new problem. Everytime a woman flirts or even smiles at me I get a massive boner (like in that movie the Anchorman when he asks the Christina Applegate character out). I don´t think anyone has noticed so far, but I can´t even wear boxer shorts anymore because of this problem (I must wear boxer briefs!).

I would like to join the local gym & work out but workout shorts do not hide certain things as well as pants so i´m afraid of having liftoff the first time some woman flirts with me in the gym.

Interestingly enough, I used to have anorgasmia from the Prozac, but after 3 months i guess my body got used to it & now have the opposite problem. People say that the drug ecstacy/MDMA which is a serotonin releaser causes a similar type of "boner syndrome", does this effect of Prozac (on me) have any similarities?

Cheers,
3 Beer Effect

Hi 3 Beers.

I've heard that this is a problem with Trazodone. I think it's referred to as "priapism," and can be painful. You didn't mention pain, however, so perhaps it's not as bad on Prozac. Have you mentioned it to your doctor? As long as it's not painful or medically dangerous, I would imagine that a lot of guys wouldn't mind having that problem!

I think you should go ahead and join the gym anyway. Maybe you can find a good pair of workout shorts that hides your privates, or perhaps you can wear a pair of briefs underneath the shorts?

I think you had been on ADD meds in the past? I'm interested to see that you're doing so well on Prozac alone. Are you still in school?

Hi 3BE,

I Had that same problem from the age of 13 to 30. I believe the medical term for it is GOOD HEALTH!!! Unfortunately, Paxil and Zoloft have had the opposite effect on me. However, I'm sure I've read that Prozac has a somewhat different mode of action than most of the other SSRI's. Makes me wish I had tried it instead of the other two.

Hi!

LOL Show off!

Perhaps you're having more 'public' erections because your anxiety has been reduced. Anxiety is very effective at inhibiting erections.
