Am I hypomanic???

Posted by D minor on April 6, 2005, at 11:30:36

I don't know how to tell if I'm hypomanic. My mom and husband think I am. I have so much energy, it seems endless. I have to keep moving. My mind seems to jump from one thing to another, hard to focus. I feel like I have insights on the world like I haven't had before. I can do with less sleep and I feel GREAT! This is day 2 of these feelings and week 2 of 60mg Cymbalta. Other meds are 5mg Abilify and 400 mg Seroquel. Could I just be in a good mood?

Look, you need to see a shrink (or preferably several) and get a professional diagnoses. dont rely upon self or this board as a proper diagnostic tool.

No worries, I see my pdoc tomorrow. I guess what I'm really want to know is what other people's experiences of being hypomanic are like. What have been their symptoms and do we share anything in common? My diagnosis is Bipolar (don't know which one)

What you described in your first post is what hypomania can feel like ESPECIALLY if you don't think it is and others who live with you say you are acting really different. You comments about ideas on world issues etc. is how I get when I am hypomanic. I all sorts one after the other and I can't slow them down. I have ideas for books, business plans ... all sorts of things and they all sound GREAT! :-)

I also get irritable though. I feel like I am surrounded by idiots. I hate it when I am like that. I feel bad for the people around me.

I hope you don't crash too hard.

Let's us know what the pdoc says.

I don't know what you are but I sure wish I had it. LOL

Maybe you just feel good for the first time in a long time? I don't know.

Seroquel is supposed to prevent mania right? and you seem to be on a high dose... so I think it would be weird if you were manic.

But who am I? I'm just jealous becuase I wish I felt that good- hypomanic or not.

Hopefully your pdoc can decide soon. Good luck tomorrow- and while you're feeling this way, could you come clean my house?? thanks! LOL

well for me i get tons of energy and am in a 'on top of the world nothing can get me down' kind of feeling. also become very extroverted and talk a mile a minute with delusions of grandeur. mind is racing and coming up with all sorts of new and exciting ideas (at least i think so).

this is 'good' mania.

bad mania is feeling extremely irritable, depressed, angry and short tempered with uncontrollable negative thoughts and self hate.

I usually get the bad hypomania. :-( But sometimes the bad hypomania is a signal that I am going to get the good hypomania. I haven't had the good hypomania in months and months.

Rats!

What my pdoc said...

My pdoc says I'm hypomanic and to back down to 30mg on the Cymbalta.

On one hand, I kinda feel like, "wow, every time I feel happy now and I going to be labled "hypomanic"."

On the other hand it is sort of a relief to know what's going on and that I really am bipolar (which I hadn't been convinced of until now).

Hey D Minor. You should keep mood chart. Chart your mood every day and then you will have something to measure it by. If you type "mood chart" in google you will find some online that you can use.

Or you can use this online one:
http://bipolar.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.moodtracker.com/index.php

Hope the med change will even you out.

Thanks Maxime,
I do have a mood chart that I got out of "The Bipolar Disorder Survival Guide". I think its a good one. My doctor, however, doesn't like to look at it. But my psychologist does, so that makes it worth it.

Ah, what am I rambling on about? My brain isn't working right. Sorry. Anyway, thanks again, that's a really cool link and I may give it a try.
