Alternative to Trazadone?

Posted by TrishP on April 5, 2005, at 11:00:52

I am taking 150mg of Wellbutrin XL in the am and 50mg of Trazadone in the pm. I'm really not liking the Trazadone. It gives me a sleepy hangover. Are there any other alternatives with less side effects than the Trazadone? Are there any things at the health food store that would be safe to take to help sleep naturally?

I'd much rather take a natural substance if possible. Anyone try L-Tyrosine or 5-HTP?

I used Trazadone and didn't like it either, it made me very groggy.

Personaly I think Remeron is a good alternative, it sends me to sleep and doesn't give me much of a hangover.
Alternatily you could use a small dose of a sedating TCA, apparently Doxepin is good.

I was taking remeron l5mg with my l0mg of valium to sleep. But, with all the talk of wt gain at low doses and the fact that I wasn't sure it was working I just stopped taking it when I had surgery. Now I'm taking the valium only. Fondly, Phillipa

If you're looking for a good supplement from your local natural foods store, see if they have a product called "Kava King." It's powdered kava in a can that you can scoop out and add to a mug of hot water and stir, maybe add a little sugar since it tastes like dirt.
But if I put a giant spoonfull in some water and sip it down at bedtime, I'm much more relaxed and ready to fall asleep about an hour later
