Abilify and Zoloft

Posted by NightStar72 on March 29, 2005, at 20:48:02

Hello new to the forum, inventation by a friend.

First off I am primarily Bi-Polar I Disorder, most recent episode unspecified. Secondary is Obsessive-Compulsive and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

My third one is borderline personality, this is my problem child that I want fixed like yesterday.

Been 3 weeks now on Abilify and Zoloft, health problems include high blood sugar, high cholesterol, and elevated liver levels. Most of my family members are diabetic already, so I am high risk there.

So far no real side effects other then being tired easily, and feeling like I am in a foggy state day after day, doctor said this should go away, but was here wanting any additional information on these two drugs, and my condition. I am more concerned right now with the BPD, since I have been up until taking this medication very depressed, due to abandonment issues.

Thanks,

Welcome to the board. You are looking into a collectivey amazing group for med advice and support, with occasional moments of dysfunctionality as any individual/group would have...What dose of Abilify and Zoloft are you taking? How is it working for your symptoms?

I don't have BPD, though it runs in my family. I have Major Depression and anxiety disorder NOS.

I take Ablify for the anxiety and depression. The atypicals for me give these disorders a pretty good fast kick. I am also on other meds; I am doing well. Amazing that I can say that!!

It gives me very mild brain fog. I first was taking Geodon, but stopped due to bad brain fog. It seems like it is an individual thing--for some, it is the opposite, bran fog on Abilify, none on Geodon. If the brain fog does not lift with Abilify and it is bothersome, the Geodon is something to consider....

Zoloft was my first med, my depression got relief in about 4 weeks.
'
Neither seems to make me tired, Abilify is activating for me if anything.

It sounds as though you are more in depression than mania?

I have had manic experience in the past, not recent. Really had not had anything happen in last few months to be anything other then depression.

Quit my job last fall, fell behind on bills, went through divorce, just everytihng has been down.

Abilify started out 5mg, now up to 10mg
Zoloft started out 50mg, now up to 100mg

Go back to doctor on 14th - was going to tell him about the tiredness and foggy feeling I am having.

My ex said it was my moodswings, major depression that brought him down, and reason he divorced me. He is back now, and just this month I learned of the BPD and made him aware, hopefully I can do something to re-abilitate my marriage. He is my life.

I am sorry to hear it's been so tough. I hope things will even out for you.

Any reason why you were not offered a mood stabilizer, or is that a route you've already gone down?

I am not sure, a few months back before I quit my job through another doctor I had started medication, but none of it was cutting the depression.

I was on Risperdal 2mg, Lexepro 20mg, Methylin 10mg, and Cymbalta 60mg. But it was exceeding $700 per month and just didn't have the money, or insurance to stay on the medication.

Now like 6 months later, finally approved for SSI, hoping to be aproved for Disability. And finally getting housing assistance since soon my current home will be foreclosed on. I know the SSI is exempt from collection, and I have received charity on utilities, but it was really getting close to the wire, I have great hopes that things will continue to go up from here.

Not to muddy the picture! you just started....but a mood stabilizer may be worth considering.
I myself am taking Lamictal, a mood stabilizer used fairly well with bipolar that has a heavy depression element. It is weight-neutral--something that can't be said for many of the other mood stablizers!, only thing to watch for is a very bad rash--but if you go up slowly on it, usually it is OK.
Again, not to already add another med so soon---but if by chance you go to a pdoc soon and don't have time to cousult this board, thought I'd bring it up so you can at least mention it....there are other too, just this is the one I have some personal experience with.

Lamictal, thanks for the word on the medication possibility.

I am still down, but not acting out as I had before, for the most part I am lonely, keep posting everywhere since I don't have a social life here I just live on message boards.

I have promised to give my ex space, but I feel often that he don't love me, or just rejection out right. I don't know how to get the attention I crave without hanging myself, and we are hardly living as husband and wife any more.

I have a major problem with associating sex and love as the same, and he is suffering major depression and other health problems that he won't have anything to do with intimate relationship, if he can help it. Least that is how it seems to me.

I smoother him, and I don't know how to give space, without feeling dispare, I thought a few times that I should not be living, I feel like dying when he is upset with me, and last time I could not follow through so I cut my long hair down to shoulder length for the mourning I feel, loss.

Thanks,
