Celexa - off it and still having side effects

Posted by Shibidee on March 28, 2005, at 19:42:06

Hi,

Has anybody had sexual side effects that lasted even after coming off celexa? I quit three months ago, and still have low libido and weak orgasms. When can I expect these side effects to go away? My doc has no answers. Thanks.

Hi,

When did you quit and what are the effects you're still having? Any improvement at all? Thanks.

What does your doctor have to say about it?

Hello,

>What does your doctor have to say about it?

He wasn't able to provide any helpful information I'm afraid. He just said that he hoped things would improve in time.

Ed.

You don't seem too concerned about it. Or am I just misinterpreting you? I'm totally freaked out. I mean, what if it's permanent??

Hello,

I am slightly concerned but not very concerned. This issue has tended to be overshadowed by my other problems. I'm not in a relationship at the moment either so it's not so much of a problem. I don't think it will be permanent, but I do expect that it could take several more months until things are back to normal. I've taken one SSRI or another for about 6 years with short breaks in between. I'm not on an SSRI at the moment though, I stopped taking Celexa a few months ago. Before I took my first SSRI I had quite a high libido, I have had a low libido for several years now. I have no way of knowing whether my current low libido has anything to do with my past use of SSRIs.

There are several meds which may enhance libido if you want to try one.... trazodone, Wellbutrin, low-dose testosterone therapy is occasionally prescribed for women. There are a few other treatments which might also be useful.

Also, have you been assessed for medical causes of low libido? You might need to be referred to an endocrinologist or a gynaecologist if you are a woman.

Regards,
Ed.

Did celexa cause the worst sexual dysfunction for you? I'm male, and wary of taking any more medications. I don't think I needed the celexa in the first place.

Hiya!

It didn't cause me any sexual dysfunction apart from reduced libido. Paxil caused similar sexual side effects to Celexa. Do you have symptoms at the moment which may require a psych drug?

Ed.

Have you tried Sentia to improve it?

Have you tried Sentia to improve it? It is a really swell drug. It increases women's libido and makes orgasms strong. Before Sentia I could't feel orgasms at all, now I have it practikally every time I have sex.
