Lamictal headache

Posted by Wildflower on March 15, 2005, at 12:48:01

Has anyone noticed a headache when increasing the dose of lamictal? I've been fine on 50 but I've been taking 75 for the last week and a half and I get a headache every afternoon. How on earth am I supposed to increase to 100? Any idea when the headaches will stop? They're making me a horrible person to be around in the afternoon.

I got a headache when first starting on 25mgs. I was very worried because I had high hopes of this drug working. However after around a week they subsided, much to my relief.I am up to 75 also, plan to do 100 on Sunday.I can feel your frustration because we all need some relief from this pain.I do hope they subside for you.

Are you taking a single dose? I took Lamictal as a single dose and had headaches.

I decided to split my dose into twice daily, morning and night, every 12 hours. When I divided the dose equally, the headaches went away, but so did the antidepressant effects.

That simply told me the headache was coming from the once daily dosing. A single dose of 100mg once daily worked better but I had more side effects than taking 50mg twice daily!! Go figure!!

Hi Theo. We haven't talked in a long time... What are you on these days?

Yes, just a single dose in the morning. I'm leaving on vaca in two weeks. Wonder if I should go back to 50 so that I'm not so miserable.

I'm actually on nothing now. Have been for about a month.

What's funny is that I originally thought anxiety was my main problem, and now that I'm not taking anything, I've realized that my general anxiety was side effects from med after med.

I feel a little foggy and not real motivated but I'm also not sad nor do I have anxiety. I always though I was a bit ADD but never took anything stimulating because of anxiety. Now that I have a clean slate, I might experiment with a low dose stim.

I plan on staying 100% med free for another month or so to get a true read and see if I'm truly BPII or just experiencing true depression/ADD.

I had exactly the same problem when inceasing the dose over 50mg. Just a constant dull headache. It would go away with a good dose of aspirin but who wants to take that everyday? Plus after a few good weeks, I wasn't getting any perceived benefit from the Lamictal anyway. In fact it made me mentally slower. Then agagin I have unipolar depression and Lamictal is a longshot in treating that.
