restless leg syndrome?

Posted by bart on February 27, 2005, at 22:52:53

what exactly is this? by the sound of it, it sounds pretty self explanatory and I think I might experience from time to time being on effexor AND Wellbutrin.
It feels like I constantly want to flex my calf muscles or quads or move the ankle joint around. Just basically an overall kind of lower body muscle agitation. It can be a bit frustrating at times too.

I don't experience RLS during the day as far as my legs are concerned, but my Neuro. just told me that my right arm (only my right arm), being comfortable in only certain bizarre positions is RLS. I also take 0.1625 mg of Miarapex for PLMD which is a sleep disorder.

Subjectively, you feel a crazily intense need to move your legs, it tends to hit worst when you are trying to sleep. YOu know that feeling when the doctor tests your knee reflex? It is that feeling, but in order to relieve it you need to voluntarily move your legs. Hence the name restless legs. It makes sleeing impossible, you feel like you need to somehow hurt your leg muscles to stop this bizarre nerve signal.
Zoloft was worst for me, though Lexapro also caused RLS at times--even in my arms.

I have it. I have heard that it is caused by some SSRI's, and that my be. I have been on Zoloft, then Wellbutrin and now Zoloft again for years. I take klonopin for RLS at night, and I have the same sypmtoms that all of you are having. Sometimes my arms and shoulders jerk as well. I couldn't get a good nights sleep for months until we figured out that I had it. I kept waking up, and my sudden movements were waking my husband up as well. Since I have been taking topamax, it hasn't been as bad, and my dr. says that mabye I will be able to cut the Klonopin out in the future. Last night the RLS was very noticable, and it was driving my crazy before I feel asleep. I hate that. -L

It is simply the most annoying, bizarre, frustrating symptom.

What if you just keep moving your legs around a lot and are constantly jiggling your foot up and down? Fondly, Phillipa

Then it is OK. (but forget sleeping!) As long as you move them, it is OK. If you try to resist and not move, the feeling builds and builds and builds until you can't stand it anymore and have to move again.'
Somehow during the day it is less of a problem. It is at night in bed when it is terrible. Just try to imagine that feeling you have in your knee when the doctor hits with his little hammer...imagine that sensation and it won't go away.....

That's the best description I've seen Banga. I used to get it if I missed a dose of Dothiepin and then took it again the next night (not twice the dose though). It wasn't confined to my legs either. It was in my shoulders and arms too. It was terrible. I used to walk up and down stairs all night. Does anyone have a solution? I've heard benzos help, but they didn't work for me. Perhaps I've read something about Periactin and Bromocryptine being useful. I can't remember though
