Weight gain on Cymbalta? Anyone have a story?

Posted by Racer on February 15, 2005, at 13:26:01

I've been on Cymbalta since late August of last year, mostly at 60mg. At first, it was fine, and actually reduced my appetite. Now, though, I think it may be showing its true colors: I've been packing on pounds, and feel ravenous most of the time, and it's really tearing me apart.

Now, it's true that I'm supposed to be gaining weight right now, but this weight gain is actually making it harder for me. Lately, I've been restricting again, trying to take off some of what I've put on, and yet I'm STILL gaining! I can't stand it.

So, can others who have been on it for a while tell me what you've noticed? Are you gaining weight, and if so are you eating differently? How about appetite? Increased or decreased or static?

Thanks.

During my doctor-instructed one week cessation of Cymbalta - a story in itself - my appetite dropped to what I now realize is Normal. I'm back on 30mg, but I think this med's got a slow and creeping increase effect on my appetite. Whoops! Sorry, it looks like English is not my first language today...

hi racer,

i've been on cymbalta since october and at 60 mg for several months now. i lost about 10 lbs initially and surprisingly it has stayed off. knock on wood. lately i've tended to be a tad more ravenous but it seems to ebb and flow which is fine as long as i don't go back to being ravenous 24/7 like i was on the other ad's.

See my previous posts for details on my experience with Cymbalta, but in a nutshell: I've been on it about two months and have gained 4-5 pounds. My appetite is mostly up (though I had a couple "normal" days last week) and my motivation is frequently down (though that seems to be getting better). I do NOT know if my experience is typical, though, as others have reported weight-neutral or weight-loss experiences.

Continuing slow weight gain on 60mg Cymbalta. Feelings of being suicidal and depressed starting to be more favourable than being so fat!

I am sure if I quit all AD's immediately, I will start to lose weight.

I am also sure that I won't want to eat so much. I can out-eat my husband and nobody can do that!

I've found cymbalta to be weight neutral. However, I recently experimented with lowering my current dose and I ate nearly everything in my house. It could just be that my depression hasn't subsided and taking myself off cymbalta put me right back to stress eating. Overall though, cymbalta has worked the best for me.
