WELLBUTRIN WITHDRAWL

Posted by terrics on February 8, 2005, at 15:59:38

Hi, I am on effexor, lamictal, lithium, and klonopin. Pdoc took me off wellbutrin because she said that putting someone on 2 antidepressants is not good medicine. I have been nauseous, lethargic, have chills and cannot concentrate since I stopped it completely 2 days ago. (after weening off). While I was on it I realized I could concentrate much better. I think pdoc really took me off because I was 'a little manicky'??? I want it back and I want to stay on my other meds as I was doing quite well. Comments?? terrics p.s. My dx is NOT bipolar. It is BPD.

Hi:
First off, 'Welbutrin' does NOT cause 'manicky.' In my knowledge, just SSRIs bring up on 'manic' episodes, if you're 'predisposed.' However, it sounds to me like you're NOT in that/manic classification. Rather, you're on depressive side as seeing your med. combo., particularly Lamical is said to be more like 'A.D.' property, thus some of 'unipolar folks' are placed on this med. if none of A.D.s do not work on them.

In my guess, ... the reason behind this/discontinuation is, .... probably, your pdoc. has some concern over 'too much A.D.' effect in your system, ... a 'pure' A.D., Effexor, 'Lamictal,' and Lithium that has some 'A.D.' effect. Altogether 4 differenct classes of A.D., if WB added. However, most of cases, WB is used for 'ADD' associated with depression rather for 'A.D.' effect. Then, I totally understand your rebound problem, 'difficult' concentration due to 'lack' of WB efficacy in your system.

If I were you, ... probably call the pdoc. to see whether he/she would allow you back on just a small-dosage, somewhere around 100 - 150 mg. a day until your concentration restored.
H.G.

Interesting... I just got off 450mg of Wellbutrin SR and had NO withdrawal symptoms what so ever. Everyone's different.

Wellbutrin is one of the few things I HAVE NOT had withdrawal to. But after my weird experiences with other drugs, I don't doubt you.

For one of the previous posters, WB is much less likely to cause mania, but in rare instances it apparently can. (But, yes, much, much, much less likely than an SSRI)
