I'm new to the site and have read many of the postings on Effexor xr withdrawal. I was on Effexor for seven years and have been taking 450 mgs. for the past two years. After suffering from of the common side effects I asked to switch to another drug possibly Celexa or Wellbutrin. Doc stopped Effexor completely, no weaning and I started 50 mg. of Zoloft. Crashed terribly within 24 hours. Nightmares, shaking, confusion, anxiety, anger -- scared out of my mind. Dr. made huge error in doing this. DO NOT STOP TAKING EFFEXOR SUDDENLY - YOU WILL REGRET. Effexor good drug but not worth it for the side effects are pure HELL when stopping.

HAVE TO AGREE...Effexor Withfrawal (and i did it cold turkey with all my meds - I was mad) IS INSANE - my therapist went mad. Of all the meds I've ever haad...Effexor is the worst to get off, to quit cold turkey or even taper. As I've said before, I' hve had nighmares, see things, become scared of aliens, norses, shadows, my cat and even sleeping (not normally me - so good luck) this topic might get more response under the Substance Abuse topic group discussion.....?
