pdoc is scatterbrained, seems confused

Posted by smokeymadison on January 19, 2005, at 17:36:15

i mean, i think that my meds are all right, but meeting with him, i always get the impression that only half his brain is working and i don't know where the other half is exactly. i always leave feeling like the confusion has rubbed off a bit. should i go back to my old pdoc? i mean, this pdoc really seems to care, but about the billing his is like, oh, don't worry about it when i ask for the the bill. i have to wrangle a bill out of him to send it to my insurance so that he gets paid. i really don't understand this approach. and he always spends at least an hour talking with me. my old pdoc spent ten minutes. i am confused. very. too much of a good thing? maybe i am just too used to the standard level of care among most psychiatrists?

I had a GP like that. She was nearing retirement... Do you trust his decisions though? I mean I got worried about my GP because she would write scripts for the wrong meds or the wrong dosages. I didn't trust her to inform me of relevant side affects etc.
If you do trust him with regards to that stuff then it sounds to me like you are lucky!

My pdoc spends an hour with me. He's probable just showing he cares. Some times they go over the time and some times a little less. He's probably still trying to get to know you? But if he is not helping you should change to a new one. Or just go less often, if you don't need the help at present.

Hi smokeymadison,
Perhaps your pdoc is battling his own psychological demons. I often wonder what attracts psychologists and psychiatrists to their field of work. I don't suppose they are immune to medication side effects either.

i will stick w/ him, i think. he is very good about knowing the meds and side effects, etc. i really shouldn't let his personality worry me. he really does seem to care about me.
