Cymbalta ~ take it in the AM or PM ?

Posted by redscarlet on January 17, 2005, at 21:02:24

My pdoc told me I could take Cymbalta in the morning or at night.
When do you take it ?
Do you find it makes you tired during the day ?
Thanks

I take mine in the morning. I tried once to switch it to nights, but it made me unable to sleep for several hours and then by the time I finally was able to get to sleep it was time to get up. So I suggest in the morning.

Unlike CrazyCO, Cymbalta totally sedates me and leaves me unable to do anything physical. I take mine at night.

As it energizes me, I take it in the AM.

I started taking Cymbalta in the morning (about 7:00), but I found I was getting very sleepy just after noon, so now I take it about 5:00 p.m. (about five hours before bed). This seems to work pretty good for me. Suggest you try the morning and if it does make you sleepy, switch to late afternoon or evening.

Just to add a third view - I take a split dose: 60mg in the morning, and 30mg before bed. It seems to be sleep neutral for me...

at all during the day. I still have to take doxepin nightly for sleep. I'm on 60mg Cymbalta and 1mg Klonopin.

Good Luck!

I originally took it in the AM. When I went up to 90 mg/day I split it 60/30. Now I'm taking 30 mg in the AM and 60 in the evening. I've had trouble with energy in the morning, trouble that predated Cymbalta. I think it's pretty energy-neutral for me.

It's interesting to see a fair number of people at 90 mg/day. A saw a study that concluded there was no benefit to exceeding 60 mg/day, but for me 60 mg/day felt like a placebo.
